Loved it!

This books did great at world building while keeping the pace of the read. It was hard to put down. Can't wait to read the next installment. The main character was relatable and I felt for her throughout the story. ( )

NO! That is what I actually cried, out loud, at 3 am when I finished this book. Cameo, Cameo, Cameo! How could you do this to me?

I was so excited to be invited to read Cameo Renae's new book, Hidden Wings.I loved her debut book, In My Dreams. When you write an excellent book your first time out, it can be difficult to follow it up. Hidden Wings surpassed In My Dreams. I wish I could give more than 5 stars. I am in awe of Cameo Renae's talent.

Emma is 17. She wakes up in the hospital to find her entire world turned upside down. Both of her parents died in the accident that put her in the hospital, custody has been granted to an aunt she did not know existed, she is moving to Alaska (a good thing but I am biased about that) and leaving behind, in California, her two best friends. Escorts come to get her for the trip to Ak and she is attacked by Darklings, creatures she did know existed, in the SeaTac airport. Then she finds out they have been sent to kill her. Talk about a bad day! That is just the beginning. There is so much action packed into this book that I found myself having to take small breaks just to breathe! There is also a bit of romance in this awesome fantasy. The cliffhanger will absolutely leave you wanting more.

Cameo has done a terrific job with her writing. You get to know her characters and they become your friends. I was able to envision the fight scenes and the settings were vividly written.

The book contains mild swearing but it is only once that I can recall. There are no scenes of a sexual nature. The romance written is suitable for teens. I highly recommend this book to all fans of YA fantasy

Hidden Wings (Hidden Wings, #1) by Cameo Renae

At age seventeen Emma's parents die in a car accident. She is taken to Alaska to live with an Aunt she never knew. Things begin to change for her, she is not who she thought she was. Soon she finds that an old prophecy is taking place, and Emma is in the middle. It will be up to her Aunt and guardians to keep her safe.

A fast paced fantasy that moves at a fast pace, with a captivating plot. Emma and her new "family" are likable. When Emma learns the truth of her family background, she is shocked and has to learn to accept it for what it is. Overall I enjoyed Hidden Wings, I feel those who like a good fantasy will enjoy it as well. Great for Young Adult and Adult (fantasy) Lovers. ( )

Hidden Wings is the first in a new series by author Cameo Renae, based around the hidden world of angels. Overnight, Emma's world has totally shifted and she is thrust into a new world that she hadn't known truly existed.

This is a book that I have mixed feelings about. For the most part, I enjoyed the story. The story line is interesting and some of the characters are fantastic. But there was a bit of insta-love that just didn't ring true for me, especially when it comes hot on the heels of Emma's loss of her parents and total upheaval of her life. There is a reason for it, which I understand, but it just seemed a little too easy. I just don't like the whole "there's a hot guy, so let's have our world revolve around him" kind of thing.

That being said, I enjoyed the plot of the story. I love a good "good versus evil" battle and this book has all of that, mixed with some great characters. I loved the Guardians, especially Dom! He was hilarious, sweet, and obviously fiercely loyal. Often, the Guardians seemed like competitive, good-hearted frat boys, rather than warriors of the world.

The mythology of the book mixes a bit of the real with a bit of the created. I like that the traditional mythology forms the basis of the world of Hidden Wings but it is changed or added to in ways that make the story more contemporary.

My Recommendation: All in all, this is a good story with some great characters! ( )
