One of my favorites of this series. A very different plot. The hero was suffering a bad reaction to a drug and the heroine was a woman from his past who was called in to help him because she was a psychologist. It took 2/3rds of the book for him to get better but the scenes of the two of them together working it out were well done and interesting. Lots of good emotion and a strong focus on their relationship. This one had 2 or 3 sex scenes. Which seemed to be just the right amount.
Moon by Laurann Dohner is the tenth book in the New Species series.

I cannot remember how I stumbled upon this series or author but am so glad I did.

The New Species are a genetically engineered mix of human and animal DNA that were created by and subsequently tortured by Mercile Industries.
The series starts around the time when the government raids the Mercile facilities. They capture the Mercile employees and begin rescuing the test subjects who are referred to as numbers. These "New Species" are genetically mixed with human and animal DNA (canine, feline or primate) and are strong, physically superior and much more immune than humans. Each book takes us through a progressive timeline going forward from this rescue while focusing on a show more different New Species character and their particular steamy story.
While there is a slight paranormal twist (genetically mutated/enhanced characters) that is the only part that makes this paranormal. Everything else is based on this planet, in this time, and amongst us and our modern day quirks.

I love this series and am eagerly (read: IMPATIENTLY) awaiting the release of the next book!

I've dreamed about seeing you again but I didn't want it to be this way or for this reason. I'm going to do everything in my power to help you. I wont abandon you this time. I've regretted taking off on you more than you'll ever know.

He would never allow her to push him away again.
She's mine to keep! It was his last conscious thought before everything turned black.

He surprised her by reaching out and cupping her face. His thumb was gentle as he stroked her cheek. "We have unfinished business, sweetness."

~ 5 Moon Stars ~

WOW! I’m glad I took a break from this series; because I came back to it with fresh eyes and an open mind.I loved Moon! Laurann Dohner had me glued to my book. Moon is book ten in her New Species series and by far this one is my favorite.

Moon is hot, dangerous and already has a past with Dr. Joyce Yards which makes for a more in-depth story. I enjoyed Moon! He is battling a drug that makes him forget who he is and who his friends are. He is brought down to his basic animal instincts. Only one women can help bring him back and heal his heart and mind.

Dr. Joyce Yards aka Joy is a head shrink. She has not been happy since she walked away from Moon almost two-years ago, but new it was for the best. Know that she is show more back in his life, she is determined to help him in anyway possible and will lay everything on the line even her heart.

Both Moon and Joy complemented each other. They worked as H/H’s. The author takes us on an emotional roller coaster into the past and present. We also get some light hearted, humorous moments between Moon and his best friend, Harley. I really want to see Harley’s story after this. This story is packed full of romance, sexy love scenes and action from start to finish. With a cover like this you know you are in for a hot romance. I highly recommend this book in the series!

This is Moon's story. We get a little more background into the time shortly after the New Species were rescued from Mercile. Which is very nice. It also makes the reader glad the NSO was given Homeland and then the opportunity to purchase Reservation. I am not that the males and females of NSO would have been able to live under constant guard in motel across the desert for a long period of time. Plus those areas would have been impossible to secure for any length of time. As for Moon we get to see the progress he has made since his release. I think that is one of the reason that this story was a little hard to read. Moon was very likable and seemed to enjoy life so much. For some nitwit to shot with some drug that make him go feral is show more unconscionable. These nasty men are also able to find a way to keep pumping the drug into his system for days after the attack. Moon comes through in the end and is finally able to form a permanent relationship with Joyce "Joy" Yard. It is always nice to see one of the New Species find a happily ever after.

Joy is a strong, independent woman that is dedicated to her job. She is an ethical person and as well as caring and compassionate. These are necessary qualities for a therapist. She fell in love with Moon while she was treating him after the raid on Mercile. She knew that the feelings she was experiencing were wrong so she left. The problem is she wasn't strong enough to go to Homeland and see if a permanent relationship could be formed with Moon. I know that if she had done that then there wouldn't have been much of a story but it would have solved a lot of problems.

Ms. Dohner has done a good job of keeping these stories from becoming routine and boring. She also keeps adding new and interesting characters that you just need to find out about. I was very impressed with Harley. Life would be so great if we all had a friend like him. He provides some much needed comic relief to a very serious and tense story. I love how he teases Moon near the end of the story. It is also nice to see some of the previous characters show up to help Moon. Most of these stories are quick reads and this one is the same. The whole book is a nice addition to the series and well worth the time it takes to read.

Moon was destroyed when the psychiatrist that he was so connected to and so attracted left with no warning and no explanation. Joyce left because she had to do her job and her job wasn't sleeping with Moon, no matter how much she really, really, really wanted to.

Now, he needs her. He's lost years of his memory due to being drugged, and the only person who can get to him is Joyce.

I really hate the male psych doctor in this. It doesn't seem like he likes the Species at all, so why keep him on, even if it's for political reasons? Surely they could find someone else who actually likes them who they can keep on for political reasons.

I like how protective Moon's friends are of him. It's good to have friends like that.
I was waiting so much for Moon's story and I was so happy that it was that incredibly good! I loved Moon and Joy's interactions so very funny at times and it had the right amount of angst to it. Amazing!
It's a rip off of Lora Leigh's Breeds series. Kinda perfect for when I need something easy to read and forget.
