Son unhappy with this book!!
I enjoyed the first two of the series however this book was VERY repetitive. I returned it when I was about halfway through. I could not handle it.
I have two other books by C. Hoover I was looking to read however, I’m just not sure now.

Save your time! ( )

Colleen Hoover is a must read author for me. Her books are nearly always perfection and even those I have not enjoyed were still wonderful books they were just not right for me. Her stories and characters are painfully real and I always become invested in the outcome. She is truly an author everyone should read at least once. ( )

I was hesitant at first to read this as I'd already finished the other 2 in the series and was concerned about how much of the story would be a repeat. I was pleasantly surprised however at the new details and getting to see Will's side. I enjoyed having more information and think it made the story feel more complete. I definitely don't think it could be read without the other 2 because I think you need the back story to really get it. All in all, I enjoy Colleen Hoover's writing and can't wait for her next storyline.

I received this book from Net Galley. ( )

'Every single second I silently look at her, holding on to her hand, erases days of willpower and determination I spent keeping my distance. Every ounce of energy I've put into doing the right thing has all been in vain'

Plot

Layken and Will's love has managed to withstand the toughest of circumstances and the young lovers, now married, are beginning to feel safe and secure in their union.

Layken wants to know everything about her new husband; even though Will makes it clear he prefers to keep the painful memories of the past where they belong.

Still, he can't resist his wife's pleas and so he begins to untangle his side of the story, revealing for the first time his most intimate feelings and thoughts, retelling both the good and bad moments, and sharing a few shocking confessions of his own from the time when they first met.

My Thoughts

This is the third and final book in the Slammed series by Colleen Hoover, and although I feel like I'll miss Layken and Will, I'm glad this is the last book, as It feels like the right place to leave their story. The first Colleen Hoover book that I read was Hopeless, which I bought on a whim after seeing it on Amazon for £1.99. I haven't looked back since, as I now have to read everything that Colleen Hoover writes.

This Girl retells the stories of Slammed and Point of Retreat(the first two in the series) from Will's point of view, as he tells Layken everything that was going through his head throughout the difficult beginnings of their relationship. I really enjoyed this, as it explained a lot and painted Will in a completely new light. At times during Slammed I found myself disliking Will, as he was making things harder for Layken. He'd push her away and tell her that they couldn't be together, but then he'd lose control and kiss her, making her believe that there was hope for them, before once again pushing her away.

Seeing things from Will's point of view showed how difficult he found their separation too, and how guilty he felt for messing with Layken's head and her heart. Also, Will's point of view showed a whole new side to the story, so although it was a retelling of a familiar story it still held a few surprises for me.

I've loved this series, and I've loved all of the characters involved, not just Layken and Will. Their little brothers Kel and Caulder always brought a smile to my face, and I also loved Julia, Layken's mum. So, although this is a goodbye to all of those characters that I've loved, I felt this was a good place to leave them alone, and let them get on with their lives together. ( )
