A very comprehensive and enlightening history of al-Qaeda.
Het eten viel tegen tijdens het bezoek aan miljonair Osama Bin Laden in de grotten van Afghanistan. Er waren broodjes die van zand leken te zijn gemaakt en vettige chips. Ook Bins favoriete maal, brood, yoghurt en rijst met aardappelen in tomatensaus druipend van het dierlijk vet ging er bij zijn bezoeker Abdel Bari Atwan maar moeilijk in.
Atwan, hoofdredacteur van de in Londen gevestigde krant Al-Quds Al Arabi bracht in 1996 een bezoek aan Osama Bin Laden en logeerde een paar dagen bij de leider van Al Qaida in nogal primitieve omstandigheden, die de 'beleefde, bescheiden, glimlachende en schijnbaar aardige' Bin Laden stoïcijns accepteert.
