Swamp Sniper

'Swamp Sniper' was my third visit with Fortune Redding in the (very) small town of Sinful Louisana. Sadly, it was disappointing. I hadn't expected the series to start to feel tired by the third book. I almost set this aside because the first third of the book was all slapstick, pratfalls, sinking boats, will-she-won't-she with Carter and not much else. I felt like I'd read most of this book before. Yet again I had a murder of a not very nice person with one of Fortune's friends as the chief suspect. Yet again, Carter had to be kept out of the loop. Yet again, a lot of the humour came from Gertie bumping into things or crashing boats because she refused to wear her glasses. I was reminded of how bored I got with Stephanie Plum blowing up show more a car in every book.

A plot did finally surface just before the halfway point. If the book had started there, I wouldn't have felt that I'd missed much. I liked the plot, just not the pace it was revealed at. The scene with the gaseous open-coffined corpse made me laugh and the final action scenes were vivid and tense.

Overall, this book just about scraped three stars. I have the next book, 'Swamp Team 3' in my TBR but I'm not in a hurry to read it. I think I need a break from the women of Sinful so that the next Miss Fortune book I read won't feel so tired. show less

This is part of a series, and when I do a book review on a series I like to wait until I’ve read all the books, but it’s fine to read these separately. Jana does a great job of dropping in a few clues about the back story so you don’t feel lost. A funny tale with some odd but lovable characters. Murder in a small town – never live in a small town – cute cops, and mysterious strangers.
I recommend it because it stays just on the right side of farce and I’ll be reading the other ones in the series. I’m curious to find out why Fortune has to hide out.

A most unexpected friendship has developed between Fortune, Ida Belle and Gertie. So when Ida Belle is in the hot seat as a Sinful murder suspect Fortune steps up to help though doing so could blow her cover.

Jana DeLeon had me laughing aloud from the beginning to the end of this story. Her characters, though quirky, are real. The story flows from event to mishap to event with a fluid flow. I heartily recommend this to be read by anyone who has a bad day or a good day .. it is just plain fun.

A book that is simple entertainment. I liked the characters, and I laughed out loud in several places. There was Suspense, and I wondered how the book would end, but it was perfect. This is the first in a long series.

This was pure Jana Deleon! Very funny, I was giggling throughout the book. I liked the story line as well. It just seems that Carter is a bit one dimensional. I suppose it is because of the flow of the story, but he should have cottoned on to some of the clues.

this series is truly worth reading, especially if you want some humor and truly memorable characters mixed in!

I'm really enjoying the Miss Fortune series. Light, funny and refreshing.
