An attempt to combine all supernatural elements in one character. The main character is a psychic who has discovered she can see ghosts and that she was a witch in previous lives . As a reader, the writing and plot were ok but they felt a little amateurish.. I enjoyed the parts relating with her psychic abilities being used to solve a crime but the ending felt like a combination of the movies Poltergeist and the Sixth Sense.
I purchased this one on the cheap as Whispersync courtesy of BookGorilla a while back, but saw that I had forgotten to review it. I like Rain's writing style and characters, but this one, while good, did not feel like one of his best, to me. A real psychic is working a psychic hotline to pay the rent, and recently her talents have begun to expand. A father whose family tragedies have weighed heavily upon him contacts her in hope of solving a cold case of murder. Be prepared for interesting plot twists!
Allison works on a psychic hotline. The difference between her and her co-workers is that she’s actually a very talented psychic whose abilities are still growing. A call comes in from a man wanting help finding his daughter’s murderer. It’s against company policy, but she does go out to meet the client and starts investigating.
The mystery is more or less a reason for Allison’s horizons to expand. By that I mean learning about who and what she is along with gaining a better understanding of the spirit world and how some of it works. I found the mystery, how and what Allison does and what she learns to be very interesting and I’ll definitely be reading the rest of the series.
This is an offshoot of the Samantha Moon series which show more I had read years ago. Unfortunately I hadn’t read far enough into the series to read Allison’s story which is brought up a number of times without enough detail for the reader to understand what had gone on. I’ll be going back and re-reading that series.
Character building is somewhat lacking, but if you don’t need depth in your characters, you’ll find this an enjoyable read. show less

Too much dithering
I made it to 60% before I gave it up. Too much contemplation, explanation, introspection, from the main character. I kept waiting for the book to start and then realized it was not about to do so. The book is written in a breezy, uncomplicated style with rather flat characters. Nice premise and would have liked it fleshed out a bit. Not a good book, just a book.

I loved, loved, loved The Witch and the Gentleman by J R Rain. It took me totally by surprise…and did I say I loved, loved, loved it.
Allison is a rare psychic, able to see, feel and hear, remote viewing, and she is also a source of blood for what she knew was a very powerful vampire…and friend. She wasn’t supposed to take clients outside of the 911 Psychic Hotline, but Peter Laurie..she felt something and threw caution to the wind. I love her friend, Samantha, a very nice, sweet vampire.
The one legged sea bird. The bee.
Love, love, love it.

Skimmed to end. Rip off of "the 6th sense"
Loved it
This book is very good. I have not read all of the Samantha Moon books, but I don't feel that hindered me in understanding this book.
