Susan Sontag (1933-2004) was one of America's first celebrity intellectuals. In the first biography to be published since her death, Daniel Schreiber portrays a glamorous woman full of contradictions and inner conflicts, whose life mirrored the cultural upheavals of her time. Susan Sontag existierte schon in den 80ziger Jahren in meinem Leben. In einer Kladde hatte ich den Satz "Mittwoch letzter Woche habe ich Julia gesagt, wie blödsinnig es wäre, Selbstmord zu begehen." von ihr zitiert. Ich kannte nicht den dramatischen Kontext.
Durch die Biografie von Daniel Schreiber habe ich ganz andere Seiten an ihr kennengelernt.
Ich fand es außerordentlich spannend, wie sie immer wieder kämpfte, einen Roman zu schreiben. Auch spannend, dass sie dies als große Herausforderung sah, obwohl sie so erfolgreich mit ihren Essays war.
Vieles davon hat mir persönlich sehr berührt.
