[b: All Out War, Part 1|19535999|The Walking Dead, Vol. 20 All Out War, Part 1|Robert Kirkman|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1387369378s/19535999.jpg|27662562] is largely the installment that the series has been building to for some time. Rick vs. Negan, the survivors vs. the Saviors all the while countless undead clamor to clean up the mess that is left behind. The deaths, the vendettas, the shaky alliances ara all called on here to whatever end they can come to.

This is Part 1, so of course it ends on a cliffhanger. We know what Rick and his team have planned, but what about Negan? Until now he has been largely underestimated, and wholly prepared for just about any outcome imaginable. Does that continue? Does he have yet another show more ace up his sleeve?

Some will live, some will die, and chaos will reign. This is The Walking Dead, so if you've enjoyed it thus far that enjoyment will continue. Just make sure you've the next issue lined up for as soon as you're through this one.

The Good: A whole lot of action going on here, as there should be during a war. Rick has a surprisingly decent plan, especially surprising when we know from the last volume that this isn't a war they were actually prepared for before Rick went rage crazy. Negan is pushing himself to all new levels of skin-crawlingly disgusting yet still pretty hilarious. I have no idea how AMC is going to be able to portray him on the show at all, he's not even close to appropriate for TV, even cable TV.

The Bad: War means people will die. That should be heartbreaking. Except it really isn't when you can't remember who any of these people are. Minor characters die here, but it's more distracting than emotional when you have to stop and think who they show more are. It's not that their unrecognizable, but people start meaning a whole lot less when there are so many characters now. It really makes a reader miss the good old days when there was a core group and that was who you cared about and focused on. show less
Without wanting to take away from what Ezekiel went through after losing his men and Shiva, I like how Michonne gave him a reality check. Sometimes we just need people to give us that and to shake us back into perspective, reminding us that others are relying on us to carry on 💪 Also, despite his vulgarity, Negan is quite an astute character. He knows that value of partnerships and has a way of dealing out unequivocal justice that is black and white, but I guess also mixed with fickle anger to garner that respect. 🤔
This was sooo good! It was so cool how they used their past experience to really fuck Neagan's group over except one of my favorite characters died.... Not looking forward to seeing that on the show
I really, really love Negan's dialogue in these comics. He is so f*ing funny! I am still very interested in the differences between the comics and the television show. I love both, and I don' t think one is better than the other. It is interesting how the television show has veered away from the comics so the audience has some surprises. But I do like how the similar events are so close to the comics, such as how a character dies, or the dialogue that is used.
It's called All Out War, part 1, so there's no expectation that this would be all about war and that the war will not end. Still, I'm reading at this point just to tread water until the Negan story is completed and they move on to something else. Hopefully, at that point the story will show something interesting about continuing survival rather than contrived violence. On the other hand, maybe they'll just keep going with All Out War, part 3!
The Walking Dead, Vol. 20: All Out War, Part One (2014) – Rick and his compound join forces with allied compounds and declare “All Out War” against the vicious overlord, Negan. After a fairly successful attack on Negan’s compound Rick and his makeshift warriors feel optimistic about overthrowing their aggressors. However, events don’t always follow expectations. This is another well written and illustrated volume in this long-standing battle between Rick and his compatriots, and their ruthless human and undead enemies.
