My favorite is Emma, I have read the book many times, and I rather enjoy it. I have also read the other boos many times and they are enjoyable. If you research Jane Austen you will understand why she wrote how she did. It makes it sad, but also shows her hope within her stories. Also just a suggestion stay clear of the newer film of Emma, if you want to see Emma on the tv the best watch the BBC version of 2009 with Romola Garai. The same for the Pride and Prejudice films, watch the BBC version of Pride and Prejudice 1995, and BBC version of Sense and Sensibility (2008). The BBC versions are all better than the films. Sense and Sensibility | Pride and Prejudice | Mansfield Park | Emma | Northanger Abbey | Persuasion | Love and FreindshipFew novelists have conveyed the subtleties and nuances of their own social milieu with the wit and insight of Jane Austen. Through her vivacious and spirited heroines and their circle, she paints vivid portraits of English middle-class life as the eighteenth century came to a close. Each of the novels is a love story and a story about marriage - marriage for love, for financial security, for social status. But they are not mere romances; ironic, comic and wise, they are masterly studies of the society Jane Austen observed. The seven books in this box set contain some of the most brilliant, dazzling prose in the English language. No library descriptions found. |
