Getting their own scenes san Z and T, and being annoying , but Zane and Ty get phone calls on this one? Maybe this is why this 'new' series is boring. I tried to read the book when it first came out. Couldn't finish it (nor the first one). But when the audiobooks came out for both series, I listened. I don't care much for Nick and Kelly. They seem silly to me, and I can't feel the chemistry. still had hard time to finish, only reason i finished them was my long commute. 3 stars because of Julian and JD. I have enjoyed reading about Nick and Kelly in the other Sidewinder and Cut & Run books, but this was the first time that I read of them having their own adventure. They are on the hunt for a treasure in order to solve a crime. The storyline is interesting and the entertainment value is high. It's full of mystery, history, and sexiness. Nick and Kelly are pretty openly affectionate. Nick is authoritative and tough. Kelly is class-clownish and tough. "This is the staff sergeant coming out," Kelly told Hagan quietly. "I'm used to it." We get mentions and brief highlights of Ty and Zane from [b:Cut Run|5199022|Cut & Run (Cut & Run, #1)|Abigail Roux|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1327894486s/5199022.jpg|5266173] to [b:Ball Chain|17736067|Ball & Chain (Cut & Run, #8)|Abigail Roux|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1386893141s/17736067.jpg|24813988]. After finding out that this book is a complete side story, I have confirmed that I am not going to read this. Plus Marco's warning on my man, Julian...I just cannot go there with this book. Really too bad as I love Nick and Kelly, but it seems Ms. Roux got this one wrong on many levels. Oh well...maybe eventually we will get another book on Cam and Julian and Nick and Kelly for that matter. :)

HTML: When Nick O'Flaherty arrives at the scene of a double homicide to find he has a witness to the crime, he thinks it's his lucky day. But when he realizes his witness is suffering from amnesia and can't even remember his own name, Nick wishes he'd gone with his gut and put in for vacation time. Then Nick's boyfriend and former Recon teammate, Kelly Abbott, joins him in Boston, and Nick finds his hands a little too full as the case and his personal life collide. The witness he's dubbed "JD" is being tailed by Julian Cross, a retired CIA hitman. To complicate matters further, JD forms an attachment to Nick that Nick struggles not to respond to as they search for the key to JD's identity. Trying to determine whether JD is friend or foe as they investigate the crime puts them on the trail of a much older mystery. When multiple attempts are made on their lives, Nick is forced to turn to old enemies and new allies to solve a centuries-old crime before he and Kelly get added to the history books. .No library descriptions found. |

This book was a blast. It has a nice mixture of romance and mystery, sweet and hot. While reading I felt like it was a prelude for Nick and Kelly's story since a few times there were insecurities of how they'd go forward in their relationship, but in the end they made big decisions, and I'm excited for them.
But just like with the latest Cut & Run book, I'm again a bit miffed at how Sidewinder's last op was just brushed aside, when it so obviously affected Nick. I almost feel like Roux is being extra careful with not revealing anything about it so that she can tell the entire story some day. I have to wonder - and hope! - if there'll be a book about it.
Nick and Kelly were fabulous as always. I love their more easygoing outlook on life, each other, and just pretty much everything surrounding them.
I thought the mystery was again excellent, Roux does the good old-fashioned mystery really well. I'm both ecstatic and sad she'll be moving forward to not-so-romance based storytelling, but as long as there's going to be some smexy times in her books, I think I'll survive. ( )
