It's mid-July in Loon Lake, and Police Chief Lewellyn Ferris has her hands full with the discovery of the skeletal remains of a missing bank executive and the murder of graduate student. To complicate matters, both victims were discovered on a hidden river deep in the national forest--a place that just so happens to be a dangerous wolf rendezvous site. Lew recruits her close friend and fellow flyfisherman, retired dentist "Doc" Osborne for his forensic and interrogation skills. But Doc has his own set of problems to worry about: his grandson is hospitalized with a grave illness, and now Lew seems to be getting too interested in the father of the murdered student--a well-to-do widower who is teaching her the Japanese art of tenkara flyfishing.… (more)

While working for an environmental department searching for non-native invasive plant species a young man stops to fly fish in the traditional Japanese style of Tenkara. Just as he's getting ready, he is killed by a sniper's bullet to the head.

Meanwhile two kayakers come across the remains of someone in a snowsuit, the snowmobile underwater, also shot in the head.

Doc's grandson, Cody, is rushed to ER with a case of meningitis where he meets up with a most obnoxious man whom her knew from his childhood..... The man doing his best to learn about Lew.

Lew, Dr Osborne, Ray, & Bruce are on the case as well as on the lake/stream fishing.

There is one thing I notice consistently about Dr Osborne; while he's supposed to be sharp & able to read an interviewee as good as, if not better than Lew, he always notices a Red Flag and either ignores it or forgets about it until the end of the book; which makes me wonder just how good of a Deputy he really is.

The more I read of this series, the more I skim over the parts of everyone's back stories & the fishing. ( )

I care little about fly fishing or fishing in general but I do like this series. Lively characters in an interesting rural environment with a storyline very similar to the Judge Knott series. ( )

I believe this is book #14 in the series. I have only read three of them so far. They have lots of fishing in the books. Interesting characters that I like and want to know more about. Clean read, full of drama, some action and humor.

Police Chief Lewellyn Ferris is one of the main characters. She is single and fly fisherman. Her close friend is Doc Osborne.

Doc Osborne is a retired Dentist. He is a widower. He also helps out when the town coroner can't make it. He has picked up Fly fishing since his wife's died.

Doc Osborne is watching his sick grandchild when he realizes that he is really sick and rushes him to hospital. They don't know if he will get better.

Ray is a old familiar character. He has a lot of the humor in the book. He is also a fishing and hunting guide. He also helps out Police Chief Lewellyn when she needs him. He likes to wear a hat with a fish on it.

Lew gets called out for a dead body in a remote area of woods. Then she has a report of a college youth missing in the same area. Also FBI Agent shows up in her town. A busy time for her.

the setting is Loon Lake a small town. Lots of fishing.

The pace is steady building up to all the action. It is a fast easy read.

If you enjoy fly fishing I am sure you will enjoy that part of the book more than I did. It does make you want to be outdoors enjoying the peace. I loved reading about the wolves packs in the area. Though I did not realize how many dogs they can kill.

I like this series of books and would read more of them in the future.

I was given this ebook to read and in return agreed to give honest review of it. Received book through Net Galley. ( )

I really enjoyed this book. I had no idea it is 13th in the series but I had no problem following the story lines. The book is simple, in a good old fashioned way, where family and community matter. This is a low key and sometimes humorous read with no unnecessary violence or sex.
What originally led me to the book was the title, it intrigued me, I had no idea what it meant until about halfway through when I just had to chuckle...:)
There are a few story lines going on here, we have the hospitalized and beloved grand child of "Doc" Paul Osborne, a widowed and retired dentist who now helps his blossoming love interest and avid fly fishing buddy, Police Chief "Lew" Lewellyn Ferris as a forensic dentist with some police cases, including the current one with dead bodies that keep showing up. We also have the fly fishing story going on, who knew it could an interesting and fun storyline?
Deep in the National forest by a secluded river and a large wolf gathering site, two dead bodies that had been missing were found. Lew asks for Doc's help and expertise in trying to figure out who killed the men and just what is going on in the forest anyway?
The father of one of the dead men comes to town to find and claim his son and helps Police Chief Lew with the case as well as teaching her the fine art of Tankara fly fishing, much to the chagrin of Doc who finds himself getting a little jealous.
With help from some fun town characters, what the Doc and the chief find leads them to the town millionaire Bud Jarvison and his bully of a wife Sharon. ( )
