Here's an excerpt from In Like Flynn (Molly Murphy Mysteries #4) - In all, it's been a good read, and I was entertained and rewarded in persevering with this series. But there's something about the latter which makes me compelled to keep reading the books, even if I rate them a 1.

This book would be the third one consecutively to notch 3 stars. There's something unhealthy and unwholesome about this series, and who knows, this very writer. But the latter's novels are addicting as hell. Much as I'm swamped with books trying to catch my eye, I always find time to squeeze the last unread Molly Murphy book. Uncanny. But if the experience is rewarding then why not? Why not continue?

There's something else...for some time I thought I was being show more unfair to these books because I was fixating on the last third act. These did often disappoint. I said to myself that I was forgetting details to the earlier chapters and I was laying too much emphasis on the last act. Well this time I went into the fray with my senses sharpened and my memory acute and guess what, it turned out that this book was just like the others; good promising storylines that delivered almost nothing. But like I said, this book is a duality of promise and disappointment. I think I will continue, simply to know what the hell happens next to our daring historical fiction heroine. show less
This one wasn't nearly as light-hearted as the ones before it. Molly is sent on a seemingly innocent assignment to Ireland but finds herself mixed up in the beginnings of civil war. There was a lot of great historical details in this story---much of which was new to me. Molly was able to wrap up some loose ends at home and gained a new appreciation for Daniel. All in all, a pretty good story.
Molly Murphy travels to Ireland at the behest of Tommy Burke to locate his long lost sister Mary Ann Burke. Molly travels on the Majestic, the same ocean liner that brought her to the USA the first time. She changes cabins with Oona Sheehan, a Broadway stage star, at Oona's request. This begins the mystery, why is the maid killed? and what is so heavy in Oona's trunks?
Molly is asked by a wealthy NYC theater producer to find a sister he never knew existed until his mother confessed to him while she was dying. He pays for her passage on a ship which just happens to have his leading actress sailing for Ireland too. She persuades Molly to switch places with her so that she can travel incognito. Before arriving in Ireland, the actress' maid is murdered and Molly is the main suspect. She travels the countryside looking for Mary Burke and running into a lot of opposition and Molly learns that her baby brother has been imprisoned.

Molly returns to Ireland to search for Mary Ann Burke, who had been left behind during the famine. But, while boarding the ship, she takes a second, seemingly innocent assignment, for Oona Sheenan. Unbeknownst to Molly, Oona has left the ship. When Oona's maid is murdered, Molly must reveal her true identity to the the authorities. Now, her fate is entangled with a murder, and she is unsure if Mary Ann is even alive.

Thinking that her plight with Oona is over, she continues to seek Mary Ann, only to be kidnapped and interrogated to determine what her motivations are. Rather to be with, than against, the brotherhood, she finds out that her brother Joseph is set to be executed. Molly attempts to break him out, but the causalities are show more great.... show less

Molly agrees to go back to Ireland to search for a well known New York theatrical impresario's left behind sister.... His only known relative is a good-for-nothing nephew whom he is loathe to leave a penny to.

Once aboard ship, famous actress Oona Sheehan, also hires Molly as her stand-in, claiming weariness of her fans. In route, Oona's maid is murdered & Molly stupidly ignores the fact that she has had words with the murderer.

Once in Ireland, Molly finds the actress's trunks filled with guns and while searching for the lost sister, unwittingly becomes involved with the Irish Republican Brotherhood and the struggle to free her brother from jail.

All in all, a very well written book. Once I began I was not wanting to put it down....
I always seem to start reading a series with the last book. But I don't mind it. This book gave enough back history so I didn't feel lost. I definitely will read the beginning of the Molly Murphy Mysteries. This book wasn't a disappointment. An entertaining read overall.
