An anthology of chess journalism, as well as a striking self-portrait of a remarkable man. Donner wrote about Bobby Fischer, chess as a game of luck, madness, why women can't play chess, and many other subjects. Finally, the complete edition of this classic. An outrageous book.

Exceedingly entertaining. Donner's wit and opinions are inescapable, and while the focus is on writing and reportage, he also delves deep into some games and problems. He charms even when he's disagreeable. ( )
