As you might expect with anything produced by The British Museum,this is a well-presented and well researched book.
It is divided into the following easily digested sections. 1. The Cat's Place in Nature.2.Cat's in Ancient Times.3. The Cat in Legend and Witchcraft.4 Cats in Modern Times.
The book is beautifully illustrated,and among the photographs that attracted me are those of ' a striped tabby cat' by George Baxter, 'Cat Licking his Paw' by Katsukawa Shunsho, 'Cat and Mouse' from the Luttrell Psalter,and 'Muscipula' (Cat eying a Mouse caught in a Trap) by Sir Joshua Reynolds.
