This book was a sweet homage to Mrs. Cassandra Clare's devotees. It is mostly a book filled with character resolution, and I know that might sound boring but I assure you it is pure satisfaction! There wasn't a copious amount of action BUT, the action that we were gifted with was gripping, and deftly written! The stars of the show were, as usual, the Characters although the backdrop was a definite contender to share the top spot. The background building was intense and often quite surreal. As a lover of all things born of Cassandra Clare's beautiful mind, I ate this (audio)book up... I needed, wanted, craved more... hour of the day or chores to be done be damned. In the end, did I feel unsated in any way? Absolutely not!! Each and every show more character had a detailed and full arc of their own... and each MC was gifted closure or at least a definitive break from a turbulent/toxic part of their past. Those who survived and made it through to the epilogue had gratifying new chapters in their lives to look forward to... I also *** MILD SPOILER ALERT*** adored (to itsy bitsy smithereens) the extra chapter describing Lucy and Cordelia's ceremony!!
AND the love matches... they were squee worthy. I may or may not have audibly squeeeed a time or three. The handful of Paramore relationships were dimensional and gray and each faced their own hardships before being gifted possible HEAs... not one of the pairings seemed forced... I loved each and every one of them! And I would have swooned more if there wasn't such an age gap between the MCs and me... that and the book crush I've been obsessed with for years now is none other than Mr. Will Herondale. I'm not much of a cougar soooo although James does have all the hallmarks of a very swoon worthy character... he's not his daddy... sounds weird... let's move on.
This series had me convinced that I must have been born in the wrong era because most of the cast's demeanors and sensibilities and overall personas were compelling, alluring and boooooy... these MCs are much more put together than their contemporary counterparts... let's just chalk that up to olden style upbringings and move right along.
Overall:
I tried to keep this review brief and the fangirling to a minimum but if in doing so I missed anything major, I apologize. It is bittersweet saying goodbye to these characters and this World I have come to cherish. If you're on the fence about this book or the series, or even this whole Shadow Hunter Universe as a whole, my 2 cents say: DO IT!! It's worth all the time you'll spend and the rollercoaster of emotions you'll experience. I truly enjoyed each and every one of these books (and especially this whole universe)!!
~ Enjoy

The book Hangover continues with no end in sight. I have tried (and failed) to pick up and immerse myself in 4 new books but this gem still lingers... it's both a curse and a blessing. Either way, it speaks to the lasting power and the Genius that is Cassandra Clare!! show less

Chain of Thorns is the final book in The Last Hours trilogy, following Cordelia Carstairs in turn of the century London. I enjoy all of the Shadowhunter books in the name of nostalgia, and this trilogy was no exception, though I still think that The Dark Artifices series was my favorite. Clare keeps me reading through each of these new iterations with both her follow-through of and continuous addition to the lore of the Shadowhunter world. I really enjoy these trilogies that take us back in time to provide additional lore and give new perspectives on pre-established concepts. Set against the books in Clare's overarching Shadowhunter repertoire, I'd give this one 4/5 stars.
A bittersweet finish to the Last Hours trilogy.
I loved the short story about the ceremony and the visitors that show up and talk to them. I also loved how Cassandra Clare gave us a glimpse into each of their futures after everything has settled down.
Looking forward to reading the Eldest Curses trilogy next.

Overall a very disappointing and mediocre final installment into the series, due to no boundaries being broken with the characters or plot.
I found that most of the characters and relationships were really fumbled, however I did enjoy Grace and Christopher, and Lucie and Jesse. But the villains and their motivations didn't make any sense, making for a silly plot, especially with the miscommunication and drama/love triangle right at the beginning.
Despite this, there was that typical Shadowhunter charm and gut wrenching character drama, but I just am bitter about a certain character death.
2.5 stars

Chain of Thorns uzavírá epický příběh plný magie, emocí a rozhodnutí, která změní vše.
I think that this was a really clear final book in this seires and i loved how it set up the future series in this world.! I grew so attached to these characters!!
