First off... can we take a moment to appreciate the title of this book?! Very clever and cute! This underwater adventure will bring Spongebob to mind for children as soon as they meet the grumpy crab. The cantankerous crustacean is quite the grouch and bullies the friends.... Peanut Butter and Jellyfish... as they pass by daily. The duo soon discovers the reason behind his behavior after choosing to save him from a trap, which changes everything. A cute story and endearing story about morality, friendship and forgiveness.
Peanut Butter and Jelly Fish is such a cute book! The art style is perfect for the ocean setting and the whole book has full paged illustrations. Even the inside cover in the front and the back are cute, showing the fishing boat going out to sea and then at the end showing the fisherman and his outcome. The colors are also very vibrant and hold your attention. Most importantly of all however, the story is great. This is a fable that has a very important message that though may at first glance seem like something every one should know, is honestly something people need to be constantly reminded of-- and that goes for all ages. Everyone comes across people who respond negatively to them and how we decide to respond in turn, and show more furthermore whether we stop to think on the other person's point of view, is something easily skewed by emotion and point of view. A lot of the time, it is the people that are so negative that are going through the hardest things in life and responding in positivity, if possible, or even just lending a little understanding or giving the benefit of a doubt could be a small change that effects the other person in a big way. Also how cute are the names Peanut Butter and Jelly Fish? show less
I absolutely loved this book! It has definitely been one of my favorite picture books that I have read thus far. My favorite aspect of this book was the illustrations. I loved the bright colors of the underwater scenery because it was so appealing to the eye. I also loved the overall message of the story. The message of this story was about how the power of kindness can turn the meanest people into your friends. I think this is an important message for students because bullying is a big problems in school, and through kindness, students can often end bullying. Finally, I loved how there was only a little bit of text on each page because it makes it easier for students to understand and gives them the opportunity to use the illustrations show more to help them develop context. I would recommend this book for students in pre-k through first grade because it is a short, easy to understand picture book with little text. show less
This charming story follows two best friends Peanut Butter the sea horse and Jellyfish, as they explore their undersea world. As the two friends explore their world, they are constantly bullied by Crabby, a not so nice crab. When Crabby finds himself in trouble, Peanut Butter, and Seahorse come to his rescue. With vibrant artwork done in acrylic paintings digitally assembled into collages, this book creates a beautiful underwater landscape, that all children will be sure to love. This book unearths many life lessons and shows children the beauty of true friendship.
A gentle tale about bullying and teasing - I thought it was very well done. I especially liked that they refereed to apologizing as brave.

I thought this would be little more fun than it was, but I guess we need stories about bullying, too. (And how some people can overcome their bullying ways once they get caught in a trap and need to be saved.)
