This is an early Christina Lauren book. It shows a lot of improvement over what they were writing right out of the gate but it is not as good as most of the more recent efforts. This is far too long, it meanders in lovely ways and then in boring ways. Overall it was sweet and sexy, a 22 year old in crisis about her future now that she has graduated running off to have a summer romance in Paris is never going to lose me. The sex is hot and unrealistic but enviable, and (this is something I NEVER say) a bit too ubiquitous. Ansel and Mia are wonderful characters. Mia sometimes seemed too young for her years, but at 22 much of the time so was I. I also ran off with a man for romance and adventure abroad so I did not have to think about show more future, so I get that. Of course she is more responsible than I was, having chosen to wander a couple of months rather than a couple of years as I did (zero regrets), but still. show less
"A Canadian, an Australian, and a Frenchman throw a rager in a hotel room?"
^^This is the lead-in that I'm giving you. Three hot men, who happen to be mentioned above, take a vacation to Las Vegas. Three chicks from California who just graduated college run off for one last hurrah to Las Vegas. Their paths collide. This is their story, particularly the story of Mia and Ansel, with some hints as to the futures of the others in the next books of the series. This book is so sexy and so funny. I was charmed the entire time I read it.
Being a performer, I've seen magic like his before. He may look like any other human, but he has that elusive quality that would force every pair of eyes to track him onstage, no matter how small his role. It'sshow more
more that charisma—it's a magnetism that can't be taught or practiced. I'm only two feet away from him...I don't stand a chance.
Mia was a ballerina. Being a dancer was her life, her passion, her future. She was in an accident that changed everything. She's a tad awkward socially, but Ansel brings out the spark in her.
"Why is he calling me 'Cherry'?"
"Does he think I'm a virgin?"
"I'm pretty sure he's talking about your blow job mouth."
"And if I may, I'd like to suggest that you hit that French boy like a hammer tonight. Is his accent not the hottest thing you've ever heard?"
Ansel is a romantic, silly, spontaneous believer in serendipity. He jumps in over his head without a second thought.
He doesn't just speak the words, he pouts them, pushing each out in a little kiss. Never before have I had such an urge to touch someone's mouth with my fingers.
They meet at a bar and again later at the motel. And again. And finally wake up married! From there, the story just continues to become more comical, more sultry, more intense...just more everything.
To me the story meaning was about taking the leap, in love, life, career, future, etc. I think the underlying message is to be true to yourself above all else and follow your heart's desire.
But when you choose the adventure, it becomes real life.
Of course, anyone who knows me should always know, I have to give credit and point out any Harry Potter reference.
I feel like I've been transported to Diagon Alley.
This is my favorite book to date by Christina Lauren. I did like the Beautiful Bastard series, but I feel this book is exceptionally better than any of those. Even if you didn't like them so much, there's still a great chance you will like this. This story-line has significantly more meat, more substance while still maintaining the amusing and seductive tones.
P.S. I want my very own sweet filthy boy.

First off - if you liked the Beautiful series by this duo, then I think for many this will be a no brainer and I'm confident you'll enjoy this very much. However for me, my thoughts are going to be biased because this was the first hardcore M/F I've read after reading close to 200 various M/M fics and I have to be honest… I haven't really missed it much.
Don't get me wrong - this book had plenty of dirty, explicit, hot smex with a good amount of feels. There was some great dialogue and I enjoyed the setups/situations that these two got into. Ansel is an awesome fantasy. He is pretty much perfect and very swoon worthy. How can one not love a man who is gorgeous, kind, spontaneous, playful and sexy?? Seriously, he is definitely a work of show more fiction because I really don't think someone like this comes close to existing. Who wouldn't want to find themselves a French man who offers you a fantastic summer getaway in his home country?? Anyone??
However I'm not as invested in Mia. To me she was like many of the other female characters in novels like this. I can't be too harsh - this is New Adult and that means she has a lot of growing up to do to figure out what makes her happy. Unlike the Beautiful series, this was solely in her POV and I missed the alternating narration of both the female and male characters. I've always been more intrigued with the male POV - their emotions, vulnerabilities and pleasure. So while this was entertaining, I felt something was missing, something I can't quite pinpoint or articulate fully as to why this didn't hit my buttons as it used to.
Overall - Ansel 4.5 stars / Mia 2 stars = 3 stars total show less

Mmm. I like Christina Lauren books, but I'm starting to see a pattern with the heroines - they are all in, then doubt themselves and doubt their lovers. Sometimes as a plot line it works and sometimes it is a little illogical. In Roomies, Holland can't seem to read Cal; she can't trust what he tells her, but there doesn't seem to be a substantial reason why not, it comes off as just a plot device. In Sweet Filthy Boy, like Roomies, I find the young heroines are bold but not brave, The progress of the budding relationships seems to rest almost entirely with the heroes. The women's ability to communicate with their lovers is bizarrely stunted. To me, the men come off remarkably well for managing to get the lovers over their hurdles. If it show more was left to the women, then heaven help us. I know this is a probably a stereotypical romance approach, and purely fictional, I feel discouraged about women after these two latest Christina Lauren reads! so perhaps I enjoyed the few I've read in the Beautiful Bastard series more. I kept wishing we could skip to Ansel's narration, to know what was in his head, like we did in the Beautiful Bastard series - alternating voices of the male and female leads. That really works for these kind of intense relationship novels. I have to admit that I wasn't sure what the word 'filthy' means in the context of this book or Ansel! He is 'dreamboat man' personified - as was Cal in Roomies - quite a different kind of man from the Beautiful Bastard series.
I did not enjoy Shayna Thibodeaux's narration. For me it didn't match Mia's profile at all. I feel bad saying this but it is not a pleasant, easy-to-listen to voice. And yet she does a terrific job with Ansel's tone and is probably pivotal to creating that character for the person who assorbs this book as an audiobook. show less

I loved this. It was sweet and hot and had a real couple having real discussions. I really hate it when the "conflict" in a story comes about solely due to lack of communication. It was refreshing to have a couple talk through a problem rather than having one of them run away or make a ton of assumptions. How grown-up!

Mia and her friends go to Vegas to celebrate their college graduation. They get drunk and married, but while friends get annulments before leaving Vegas, Mia stays married to Ansel and returns to Paris with him for the summer before she is scheduled to go to graduate school.
I loved this book! With this title I expected something totally different. While there is a lot of hot sex, this book is more about Mia growing up and deciding what is best for her and what to do to get it. It is also about Ansel growing up. I liked how they both grow up and grow together. They are great together. Ansel is my new book boyfriend. Loved him.
This is a fantastic read and I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
