I was completely charmed by this wordless book that delivers what the title promises. Each page is a beautiful painting depicting Christmas preparations and celebrations in the first decade of the 20th century. A perfect way to enjoy the nostalgia and wonder of an old-fashioned Christmas.
Beautifully produced little book, without any text, which tells the story of an Edwardian family Christmas through nearly thirty double-spread colour illustrations by a master of the art.
The pictures give a nice picture of the period. Useful for costuming ideas for both the late Victorian (1837-1901) or Edwardian (1901-1910) eras. Dickens lived in 1812-1870.
Could be used for productions of "A Christmas Carol" or street fairs such as Galveston's "Dickens on the Strand" festival in December.

Illustrator John S. Goodall was born in 1908 and attended the Royal Academy schools. Even though he worked in advertising, portraits, and magazine and book illustration, he is best known for his wordless picture books. He started publishing these books in the 1960's and many of them were for children. He died in 1996. (Bowker Author Biography)
