I'd just read one of these that I really liked, so to me, this one started out slowly. It got better as it went along. Venture capitalist Griffin Haddon thinks he wants solitude and anonymity after he gets played by a con woman. He takes the advice of his best friend's girl (Vivian) and thinks he'll find it in Serendipity, Texas. He doesn't seem to realize that in a small town, it's common for everyone to know everyone else's business. However, small town residents do often seem to care about others in their community also (which is the positive side).

There seems to be some question as to whether Vivian was being self-serving (hoping he'd decide to help her with her spa funding after all) or whether she truly loved her hometown and thought it might help when she sent Griff to Serendipity. I couldn't decide.

Griff thinks women can't be trusted because the con woman toyed with his heart. He also suffered growing up, which puts him in a unique position to help one of the teen's in what Alexis thinks is her last group of troubled teens to come through Redemption Ranch. Alexis is struggling monetarily though she lets few know this and feels she doesn't have a head for fund-raising etc. So even though to all us readers, we can see that their respective skill sets complement each other, we have to read through the entire plot for them to realize it.

I liked the idea of the "Little Chicks" (even if I didn't cotton to the name) with three high school friends still being close friends and being willing to have each others's backs when push came to shove. I was glad that Griff could identify with Devon and draw him out to confide in him and that both Griff and Alexis cared enough to take action to see what could be done to make Devon's life after Redemption Ranch more pleasant and loving.
