When tragedy loomed near, April Maxwell left life in a big city and came home to tend to her father. Her faith and belief in happy endings all but destroyed, April threw herself into working her father's ranch. First in the series (about three close cousins who are living together). April Maxwell left her Texas home and got a job in the big city, away from her sorrows and loss, and her fiancee. Now she is back in Texas, helping take care of the ranch and care for her Father, who is dying. Rancher Reed Garrison (her former fiancee) loves Texas and still loves April and wants so much to recapture the joy they once had. But it will take patience and understanding as he waits for April to figure out what she truly wants.

I had a hard time getting to understand and appreciate these two characters in this story. I never felt I completely got into the story, but I do want to read about what happens to the two other cousins in this series, so I will keep on reading the other two books in this series. ( )

Really enjoyed this book. Well-written, strong characters that grew through the story. Sad in parts, happy in others, and a happy ending. ( )
