I laughed aloud more than once. Excellent format, well-matched rhymes, and very fun illustrations to go along with it. On each page there are a certain number of animals and then one less of whatever it is that they all want, so there's always one animal left out, and that one's reaction is the part that usually had me laughing. I can only imagine how hilarious kids would find it (will be testing it on my nieces soon).
Long for a board book, but the pictures are funny for toddlers, and the lesson important. Too many adults (at least around here) still don't know how to share (even those who tell their kids to do so).
I liked this book for many reasons. First, I greatly enjoyed how the characters were animals. This was a great yet silly way to tell the story. Second, I loved how each paged rhymed with the next one. For example, “One big pair of underwear/ Two brown bears who hate to share/ One bear wears the underwear/ One bear growls, ‘that isn’t fair!’” This was a great technique Laura Gehl used; it captivated the reader’s attention. Lastly, I loved how each page displayed silly conundrums: only two snacks for three yaks, just five pillows and mats for six sleepy cats, and so on.
The big idea or central message of this story is learning how to share. I think Laura Gehl did a fantastic job of portraying that in her story.

This counting book offers vibrant illustrations, great of read alouds, and noticeable, predictable patterns. Young students would enjoy reading this book with the easy mastery of sing-song style wording. And what students don’t like talking about underwear?!
Nice illustrations. Anything that mentions underwear is going to be a big hit with the kiddos. I like how it uses numbers to talk about sharing. It is silly and the illustrations match the words and are fun to look at. My children enjoy this book.
Kids will get into this book because it is funny that two bears share one big pair of underwear. While they are laughing they will also learn about more, less and sharing. Cute cartoon illustrations for toddlers and pre-k.
One Big Pair of Underwear is a counting book that is silly with rhyming words. The silly illustrations and wording will make children stay engadged. One person always gets left out and becomes upset while counting and the characters learn to share. The book not only helps readers learn to count, but also provides a message on sharing through the silly language and bright illustrations.
