Some parts were 2 stars and some 4 stars. This felt very scattered with injured in some way former military members playing for a hockey team (Bomb Squad) who win a chance for an exhibition game against Russians. The hero is Theo, French Canadian who lives with TBI (traumatic brain injury), and he has been running and trying to buy a boat rental business.
Heroine is Allison who has filed for divorce, is pregnant, and husband just got busted for embezzlement. Boat rental business is only thing free from embezzlement so she shows up to run it.

They clash!

It was a little cringe at times with "he's mean to her because he likes her" but the author would also throw in things like hero thinking "No means no" and other very clear great boundary lines. He's gruff but also very shout-y with some anger management issues, he never crossed a line for me but at the same time, he's lucky his butt is in fictionland.
There's a big cast of characters that are obviously going to get their own books and the author did a good job drawing you into their stories.

Just a ton of working parts to this, it makes it feel very scattered and a good amount of storylines end up feeling useless. Maybe first in series syndrome or maybe we should have just had military dudes and left the hockey out (I can't believe I said that but really all you get is some menacing on ice looks from hero).

I did enjoy how the heroine's baby felt like a purse or accessory in the way she was included in the story, lol.

Will be reading the next in the series because there was some humor, great female relationships, and main couple interaction that was enjoyable. Hopefully, the next one doesn't feel so scattered and be more focused. ( )

After an ugly divorce, Allison Whitely moved to Destiny Falls, New York to start a new life as the owner of a boat rental company called Cloud Nine.

Cloud Nine manager, Theo Lacroix, had a dream of buying the company until Allison shows up upsetting his dream. The two have a difficult start, needing to learn to work together.

Allison Whitely was courageous for moving to Destiny Falls and starting over. I like that she was determined and did not back down. I also appreciated that she admits to her weaknesses and wants to change them.

Theo Lacroix is a noble hero. He had a difficult past and made decisions that he wasn’t proud of. I like that he finally forgave himself, and that he was open minded, getting a chance at happiness. I also respected the creative methods Theo used to overcome his disability.

I love that the Bomb Squad hockey team is made up of injured military veterans. I think that it is great that this group of guys found something to fight for. That they did not give up on life because of what they suffered.

Melissa Cutler did a great job with this first book in the Bomb Squad Series. She created a wonderful town, with worthy characters that I look forward to getting to know better as the series progresses. Cutler is off to a great start, creating an insightful and believable series.

Wow. This was such a great book! It had everything a good romance needs...drama, hot guys, great friends, motorcycles, and hockey. Really, what more do you need? Seriously, this is a great series about a group of guys who were wounded in war in some way who get together for friendship, brotherhood, and to play hockey. Each has a story and a different disability, some visible and some aren't, but they come together with the help of their coach, each other and hopefully a really great woman.

In this book, which is the first in the series, we meet Theo and Allison. Both have had a pretty rough time lately, but things heat up the second they meet for the first time. Without trying to give anything away I'll just say that they had a really rough time getting to know each other, but it pays off for both of them. Theo, who not only plays hockey, but speaks French and rides a motorcycle (that's like, my dream man!) is just trying to buy the company he's been running for the past five years. Allison just had the ultimate wake-up call about her husband and is trying to get back on solid ground. Once the two meet and try to figure it all out sparks are flying everywhere and it's so much fun to watch.

We also got a taste for the other guys on the team and Allison's new friends and you can see potential matchup that are gonna rock Destiny Falls. I can't wait to read more about these guys! As a disabled person myself, it's a great thing to see the main characters portrayed as heroes, but also guys that just want to get on with life and find the love they so deserve no matter their physical makeup.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. ( )
