Khardan, Zohra, and Matthew struggle ineffectually against each other and themselves as they are imprisoned under the power of a dark, dead God.

In middle-school days, my favorite character was Pukah, the puckish djinn who propels the plot. I've always liked trickster characters. Reading the books now, he's not quite the cunning and charming creature I remember, but he serves an important narrative purpose. Whenever the story threatens to grind down along predictable lines, you can always count on Pukah to rise up and throw a convenient wrench in the gears. He's like a meddling, witless deus ex machina!
I’m really enjoying re-reading this series. I like to read in the bath, and I keep letting the water go cold around me as I don’t want to stop. I find the djinns a bit dull, but love the three main characters especially the bookish bi/gay wizard Mathew and his struggles in a savage land.

Another enjoyble, but not memorable series by Weis and Hickman. Unfortunately, after the Dragonlance and Darksword series, their trilogies start to feel the same. The names are changed, the world is different and the gods are different, but really the plot is very similar. Still good, just all that great.
I adore the Rose of the Prophet series. In my opinion, they are one of the finest high fantasy tales around. The world system is unique, the Arabian setting engaging and richly depicted, and the characters move me. Romance, adventure, sinister villainy and touching heroics.
Homesick shipwrecked wizard resorts to demonic magic to escape from a clan of evil god worshipers.

Alle hoop is verloren.
