The Monuments Men [2014 film]

Given the violence of the war, I was impressed by Clooney's restraint in that area. The film is mostly successful at telling a quiet story respectfully, without capitalizing on the blood and guts. Subdued and thoughtful acting as well. A good ensemble cast. The story really deserved a longer film.

Historical movie basted loosely on the men tasked at the end of World War II to find and save artwork that had been stolen by the Nazi's. Once the team is assembled they find it hard to get the regular Army to help them, so they split up into small groups to track down the artwork. The big breakthrough comes when Claire Simone, who was forced to work for the Nazi's, decides to help. With the information she has the team races against the Russians and the Nazi's, who are determined to destroy everything, to recover as much as possible.

A good movie that brings to light an unknow bit of the war.

Mentre le forze alleate stanno sferrando il loro attacco alla Germania lo storico dell'arte Frank Stokes ottiene l'autorizzazione da Roosevelt in persona per mettere insieme un gruppo di esperti che cerchi di recuperare le opera d'arte che Hitler ha fatto portare via e nascondere in previsione della costruzione del mastodontico Museo del Fuhrer. In caso di sconfitta del Reich l'ordine è di distruggerle. Si viene così a creare una compagnia formata da due storici e un esperto d'arte, un architetto, uno scultore, un mercante, un pilota britannico e un soldato ebreo tedesco per le traduzioni. Escluso quest'ultimo i componenti del gruppo non hanno certo l'età dei combattenti ma la loro missione non è priva di pericoli. (fonte: Mymovies)

Basato sulla storia vera del piu' grande saccheggio di opere d'arte della storia, e' la storia di una squadra, reclutata dall'esercito americano durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale e spedita in Germania per salvare capolavori artistici dalle mani dei Nazisti e restituirle ai legittimi proprietari.
