In a verse novel, told through the intertwined narratives of a young English girl and a Native American girl, Rose captures the truism that friendship bridges cultural divides. The two girls in the Roanoke colony during the 16th century don't speak the same language but through gestures and kindness, they overcome fear of the unknown (one another). ( )
