I've read quite a few books about the Manhattan Project. For an all-encompassing dive into the subject read Richard Rhodes excellent "The Making of the Atomic Bomb." But, if you want a comprehensive understanding of the Manhattan Project without the density of information in this almost 1,000 page long tome, "Day of Trinity" is the book to read. Dated? Perhaps a little. It was, after all, written over 50 years ago. Relating the story from the scientific, political and human element perspectives, without delving into the detailed underlying science or bogging down in the complex political machinations of the day, it captures the historic enormity of this undertaking in a compelling narrative. In my opinion, if you are only going to read one book on the subject, this is one. ( )
