How to Read a Story

Description

Step One: Find a story. (A good one.) Step Two: Find a reading buddy. (Someone nice.) Step Three: Find a reading spot. (Couches are cozy.) Now: Begin. Accomplished storytellers Kate Messner and Mark Siegel chronicle the process of becoming a reader: from pulling a book off the shelf and finding someone with whom to share a story, to reading aloud, predicting what will happen, and-finally-coming to The End. This picture book playfully and movingly illustrates the idea that the reader who show more discovers the love of reading finds, at the end, the beginning. show less

Cute and comprehensive how-to, with advice ranging from the best locations and buddies, to the proper use of character voices. Fun and encouraging.
How To Read a Story is a delightful book that tells the story of a little boy who loves to read and he shares all of the wonderful ways to settle into a good book using a step by step or "how to" format! I have used this mentor text in a variety of ways. In Reader's Workshop, you can use it as a springboard to discuss how you will become a community of readers. You can also use it to discuss the procedures that will help Reader's Workshop run smoothly each day. To inspire writers, this book is a wonderful example of "how to/step by step" writing.
Such a perfect book about the joy and love of reading books. Every budding children's librarian looking for a primer on how to conduct story times needs this book.
What it says on the tin. A charming illustration of a kid becoming a reader.

Look at the book's cover.
Open the book.
When the characters talk, do the voices
Hold it so buddies can see the pictures
Sound out words you don't know
Use an excited voice for the exciting parts
When the book is over, say The End!
An ideal preschool read aloud for introducing the classroom library corner at the beginning of the school year!
A great book to read to the students! It teaches the students step by step how to read a story!
I recommend that all children read this book. It teaches kids how to read or how to become a reader.
