Danger from beneath the waves & fear & mistrust in the microcosmic world of the passengers on board are brought to high tension in this absorbing sea adventure. The "Laurentia," pride of the PanAtlantic fleet, sails from New York bound for Liverpool, carrying a mixed bag of passengers, British & American, young & old. The year is 1915 & Captain Pacey's anxieties are many as he takes his command out past the Ambrose Light for what may prove to be a hazardous voyage. The passengers are unaware that the "Laurentia" is carrying war materials, & if this should become known to the German High Command, the liner might well become a legitimate target for enemy attack
