Rory the dinosaur is an active little guy, so when his father, tired out from keeping up with him, and in need of some quiet reading time of his own, withdraws with headphones on, the prehistoric youngster takes off for an adventure by himself. At least, he thinks he's by himself...

Character artist Liz Climo, who has worked on The Simpsons cartoon, made her picture-book debut with Rory the Dinosaur: Me and My Dad, and the result is a little tale with distinct charm. The artwork here is simple but appealing, and the contrast between the textual narrative, in which Rory imagines that he is doing everything on his own, and the artwork, which reveals that his dad is with him every step of the way, looking out for him even while he allows show more him a feeling of independence, is very well done indeed. I see that there is a sequel, Rory the Dinosaur Wants a Pet, which I will definitely track down. Recommended to anyone looking for new children's books about the loving relationship between children and their fathers. show less

M'awww. I love seeing Liz Climo's characters in a book! And Rory and his dad are the cutest. Poor dad never gets to rest!

A little dinosaur named Rory runs away from home and his loving father to have an adventure of his own. But while asserting his independence Rory is oblivious to a guardian angel who is watching out for him. Sweet and cute.
