I like this book. I can relate to the main character because I, too, enjoy my alone time. The illustrations in this book are very different from most of Henkes's illustrations. The colors are darker than usual, and the lines are less controlled. This book, in my opinion, teaches children that it's okay to be alone sometimes. Reflection and introspection are important. I think that this book also conveys that people shouldn't spend all of their time alone because isolation can be a dangerous thing. I come to this conclusion by looking at the way the main character says that he wonders what his friends are doing and by looking at the way the main character says that he likes to be alone only sometimes and only for just a while.
Sometimes being alone isn't always a bad thing. When you are alone, you can hear everything around you that you normally would not be able to hear. Kevin Henkes tells a great story of a little boy who enjoys being alone and notices the world around him. Henkes does not make it sad, but rather a peaceful story about being alone.

This is the first picture book written by Kevin Henkes, and it was first published in 1981. This book describes a little boy that wants to be all alone. Sometimes, when we are alone, it's the best place to be. We get to think about things that we may never think about if we had company. My favorite page in this book is when he writes, "When I'm alone, I look at myself inside and out. No one looks just like me or thinks just like I do." Each and every person is unique in some type of way. Sometimes being alone can help us figure out who we are.

This is Kevin Henkes’ first book. It is a realistic fiction picture book about a boy describing what he likes to do and think about when he’s alone. From using his imagination to contemplating questions he doesn’t know the answers to, the boy explains that he enjoys time by himself. This book is an easy read, children from Pre-K to 5th grade can read it.
I thought this book was just okay. It was short and didn’t have much of a story line. The central message is telling children that it is okay to be alone sometimes. In the story, the boy sees alone time as positive, giving him opportunities to use his imagination and contemplate things about his life. The book ends with, “Sometimes I like to live alone, all by myself, for show more just a while,” relaying the positivity with being alone.
Though I thought the story might be too simple, I did very much enjoy the illustrations. The drawings were very well done and beautiful to look at, but I’m still not sure if children would be drawn to this book or get much out of it. I don’t think I would make a point to have this book in my classroom.

Being alone can be a time of self-exploration. In this book, Kevin Henkes depicts being alone as a positive experience rather than a negative one. By themselves, children can learn more about who they are, what they like to think about, and where their imagination can take them.
I found this book very interesting. I was amazed by the message this book could send with so few words. This book taught me about self empowerment and being secure in who you are. There are things that we all do that we would not do around others, like questions or thoughts we have. This book was relatable and engaging.
Anyone can relate to this book because we are all alone at some point. Sometimes we just have to embrace the loneliness and take advantage of it, because time alone can result in many great works of art and ideas. The illustrations were beautiful and this was by far my favorite so far. The beauty of being alone is beautiful.
