I enjoyed this book and as I read it straight after book show more one just continued the "adventures" of Carrie, Nathan, Max etc. Not much more to say really still well written and kept me hooked with the action , wanting to know what happens next. show less

I enjoyed this more than the first book in the series, maybe because there was far less need for world building and background, and therefore more actual story. I did find the ending a bit too soft, though. One expected resolution felt weak and the other didn't happen. It was still an entertaining read, and definitely worth it if you enjoyed the first book.
More of the same, really. The book starts very slowly, and then rushes towards the ending in the last few chapters. I don't think I quite followed everything the characters decided to do at the time they decided to do it, but the story does all make sense. Again, the real strength of these books is not the vampire high jinks, but the fucked up yet honest lovelives of the protagonists.
The second in the series and things are beginning to make more sense. Some of the plots within plots are beginning to resolve themselves and our heroine is trying to stay alive and stop vampire world domination. Fun and light this is a better read than book 1.
Okay I didn't really like the first book in this series much but I already had the second book downloaded on audio so I figured I might as well listen to it. I guess I can't say it was a waste of time because I was driving while I listened to it, but I can say I won't be reading any more of these books.
In this book Cyrus is brought back to life as a human and Nathan runs around mad possessed by something. There you have the majority of the book. Many pages are spent on Cyrus angsting about how he feels guilty for all he did as an "evil" vampire and him wondering how to atone for it. Nathan runs around killing people; as he is insane. This book is primarily about Max and Cyrus. Max comes to help Carrie help Nathan. There is a lot of time show more spent on Max's and werewolf girl's relationship. There is a lot of time spent on Carrie and her desperate need for Nathan to be alright and Carrie and her desperate need for Cyrus to be alright.
You here about Max not wanting to fall in love, about Carrie not being in love with Cyrus but loving him, and about Carrie loving Nathan but Nathan loving his dead wife. There really is not much plot development. I think you could have condensed this book down to maybe a page and called it done.
There isn't very much gore or violence in this book. There are a couple brief fight scenes. The amount of action is minuscule. Carrie proves herself to be as much of a victim as ever, despite her own thoughts that she has changed so much since killing Cyrus. She is still whinny and incompetent (both emotionally and physically). Even the new female lead character the werewolf woman; despite being less whiny and more competent, ends up needing a man to help here out and constantly shows her "vulnerable" side. This whole book was too much of the swooning woman and big man coming to help me type. I didn't like it at all; I kind of wished that Cyrus would go crazy and wipe out the whole lot of them. Of course, he didn't, he was just as whinny and indecisive as everyone else in the book.
I would recommend skipping this series altogether and reading something worth your time. show less

My review of the first book "The Turning" was less than stellar. I had qualms about whether I would like this series. I can say that I am extremely glad that I went on to read "Possession". Here we meet up with Carrie and Nathan, cozy and content until Nathan becomes possessed. About the same time, miles away, Cyrus, Carries evil and dead first sire, is pulled from a deathly limbo to find himself in this world again, and human. Human Cyrus is maybe even more interesting the cruel, pshyco vampire Cyrus in his quest to face his previous nature and the unimaginable acts of terror he had inflicted for decades. Carrie unfortunately still is just not a very likeable heroine. She is too easily swayed from side to side, not just in her opinions show more but in her men as well. I also kept forgetting she was a vampire for some reason as I read this book! Nathan too is sort of dull, even when possessed. He is so busy wrapped up in his past that we never really see him as who he is in the context of the current story. Max, the vampire assassin and Bella, the werewolf assassin make interestng side characters whose portions of the book were among the most enjoyable. The entire first half of the book was incredibly exciting to me, watching Cyrus's humanity unfold. There isn't tons of actual action in this book, but there was enough to keep me from truly missing it. My biggest complaint came at the close of the novel, which to me truly felt unfinished. I understand a series is supposed to leave some loose ends to intrigue you enough to grab the next volume, but it should at least satisfy the reader on most levels. I really feel here I was left hanging. Overall, I found this story to be much more enjoyable than the "Turning" and I look forward to seeing if this uphill arc continues for the third installment. This is a good book in the realm of vampire fiction. show less
Armintrout continues her Blood Ties series with style and verve, taking the reader to a completely convincing but alien world where anything can -- and does -- happen. There are touches of wild humor, and Carrie's first-person passages give it immediacy.
