Franklin Wants a Pet is a lovely book that teaches kids about patience and responsibility. Before this, I have never read a "Franklin..." book, but I'm glad I did. Not only is this book great educational entertainment for kids, it also teaches them lessons that they can take with them in the future. I loved the illustrations all throughout the book as well because it shows kids what is happening as it is being read. Overall, this specific Franklin book is perfect for kids to learn about patience and earning the things you want. For example, Franklin has always wanted a pet, but he had to prove he was ready to take care of one. Taking care of his stuffed dog showed his parents that he was ready for a big responsibility. This teaches kids show more to become responsible, especially in the things they want. Franklin was also kind about the whole process, which is another small lesson built in. Franklin Wants a Pet is generally the perfect book for kids to learn and be entertained. show less

In the book Franklin discusses why he would and wouldn't choose different animals for pets and how he came to the decide which pet is best for him. I love how Bourgeois describes every step so that young readers can understand and learn about thought process. Following steps and ideas to make a decision.
