I think this would be a fun book for a (very) young reader, as it is an original style, told more like a fairytale, with odd artwork, and the part where the Arcadian books have been sent as parcels from Arcadia to here is just a fun concept.
That said... I didn't find it very interesting. I believe a young reader would enjoy it for its novelty (and it's really not that long), but I got bored. I wondered if I'd get into the story more if I read the previous histories, so I bought Snotty Saves the Day, and boy was that weird. Kinda fun. Definitely a young-kid thing (esp. the name 'Snotty' which kids would find hilarious). BUT even having read the history, I was not particularly inclined to continue with the Lizard Princess.

I want to stress though that I would recommend this to a young reader. Also, the covers are really pretty, high quality soft material.
I hope the author keeps trying and finds his audience!

I read The Lizard Princess without having read Snotty Saves the Day or Lily the Silent and even though this book is supposed to be self-sufficient, I found the first third of the book to spend way too much time trying to explain the context of the characters in a way that disrupted the flow of the story. I saw that Jack Zipes gave the book a positive, if brief, review ("Imaginative.") and that definitely made me want to spend time trying to see what he saw in it, but I just never got there. Maybe if you read the other two books in the series the characters would be more appealing, I just couldn't get interested in them though. ( )

When reading this book I found that it was hard to get in to. The book was written like a diary with no person to person communication or conversation. While it does have the mystical realm feel to it, I got lost in the detail of it that I found it easy to get lost in what the author was trying to say.
