Real Tigers by Mick Herron (2016)

hairball: The tone of Real Tigers put me in mind of the Bryant & May series. While the subjects are very different, the characters are, if not of a piece, then cut from the same cake.

I am fast becoming a Slough House junkie. This series is excellent, and bright as a new penny. The characters are unforgettable. The dialogue is crisp and witty, and you have to be quick on your feet to keep up with lumbering, acid-witted Jackson Lamb. In this book Lamb loses one of his Slough House agents, and the rest of the team find out before he does and set off to find the missing employee. Each of the four have their own demans to deal with, and that is why they are part of the Slow Horse team, but each of them have one or two amazing spy craft skills, and if they work together, they can do amazing things. Lamb finally clues in to what happens, and then look out. For as lazy and alovently as he looks, his mind is as sharp as tack. He is continually underestimated by his superiors, Ib their best day, they cannot hope to catch up with Jackson Lamb and the workings of his brilliant mind. I highly recommend this series, and I cannot wait to read more. ( )

An enjoyable continuation of the adventures of the Slough House crew. This one covers just a day or two, yet includes kidnapping, blackmail, murders, executive secrets, sobriety and more. Jackson Lamb continues to entertain. ( )

Good, fast read. Herron continues to develop the characters in interesting ways. The books all move in such a way that everything is so much in its place that it is almost more like a piece of well wrought music. Everything in its place and the pitch dead on. ( )

Mick Herron has a most engaging use of language to move the story along. The characters each embody a sense of ennui that is characteristic of all the Slow Horses. However they collectively rise above it in meeting the challenge posed by their adversaries.

And the humor, sublime but often generates laugh out loud chuckles. ( )
