This is a nice first look at cultural foods in a simple limited word format. The illustrations are bold and eye catching. They capture the child’s interest. Young children will enjoy this introduction to Japanese cuisine, and can build a Sushi vocabulary. ( )

Adorable and fun! I read this to my squirming belly baby and can't wait to have her demand "Miso in my sippy cup!" ( )

Colorful paper and mixed media collages illustrate this board book about different kinds of sushi. The Japanese names of the sushi are used in the rhyming text of the book, adding an authentic touch. The illustrations make great use of patterned paper and material in the collages, which adds visual interest but makes the page look busy. However, the text, set in a large, easily-readable sans-serif font, is generally on a solid color part of the page, ensuring readability. This book would be a great choice for anyone wanting to improve the multicultural level of their collection, and is recommended for babies ages 0 to 2. ( )
