Picked this square little board book up at the library Children's Book Sale and the toddler loved it; I wish we'd had it right from the beginning! I'll keep this in mind as a baby gift for others in the future (along with Mary Murphy's I Kissed the Baby!). Peek-a-boo, rhyming, AND a mirror - this little book has it all.
A peek-a-boo game in a book, but very clever. The book has five sets of corresponding page spreads (six, counting the cover and title page) that follow a simple format. The first spread has a page with the words "Peek-a" and a companion page with a hole cut out of it, giving the reader a peek of the coming illustration. The second spread has a page with the word for that peek (for instance, moo, boo, or zoo) and the companion page reveals the hidden illustration (for instance, a cow, a ghost, or a zoo). Super cute. I love the fact that "peek-a-boo!" refers to a ghost, and that the last page is a mirror, for "peek-a-you!" I bought this book for my baby girl, who loves it, but my toddler also loves it and is always stealing it away! A show more home run in the fun book department. show less
This board book cleverly plays peek-a-boo with cutouts showing part of the picture on the next page, the picture always rhyming with the boo of "peek-a-boo" game. Most of the pictures make a noise that is the rhyme (who, moo, boo, choo-choo) the last two don't (zoo, you). My 18mo son really likes the "choo-choo" part.
The reason that I only gave this 2 stars:
- I really like the owl in the leaves on the cover, but I'm less keen on most of the other drawings. I really don't like the green ghost.
- The words are really limited to "Peek-a-" and then the answer. That's it. I would have liked something on the line of "Peek-a-Who! The owl says Who-Who. Owls are birds that are awake at night." or something. I would have liked at least 2-3 show more sentences (including Peek-a..." per picture.
- So, it's okay, but I was really excited about the concept and disappointed with the execution. show less

H is 14 months and has been obsessed with this book since it came home from the library. We've had to hide it a few times because he will insist that we read it to him repeatedly at least a dozen times in a row. It is super cute as he responds to each section... we say Peek-a and he says Who, Moo, Boo, Zoo, Choo Choo, You. Well done for a simple board book. If I wasn't tired of it I'd have to own it.
Phrases that rhyme with “peek-a-boo” (e.g. “peek-a zoo”)
Very cute! The rhymes combined with the cutouts is great for anticipation.

Great fun for the little-littles, who can appreciate the rhyming word play.
In this book there a pictures and the text says “peek a”. the children are supposed to look at the pictures on the page and fill in the rest of the sentence. There are pictures of a cow, ghost, zoo, and train and at the end there is a mirror.
I like this book it is really cute. The end when it uses a mirror lets the children see them selves. It is great.
You could do a lesson on self esteem make the children describe what they see in the mirror and tell you one good thing about themselves.
