This is the story of the capture of Adolf Eichmann in Argentina by Jewish agents as told by the operation leader.
Interesting how they heard about him being there from someone who told someone who told someone and it eventually got back to the people that could go get him.
One of the best parts about the way this story is told is how the author explains the personal connections between the agents history of harm from the efforts to exterminate them and Eichmann. Some of their stories were horrible, about how their family members were killed before their eyes or how they were seperated in a death camp never to see each other again. They smuggled him out of Argentina in a plane. They told the crew who they had prisenor as they were taking show more off. One of them had watched his younger brother be killed in front of him and his mother and sister were sent to the gas chambers. He immeditatly burst into tears when was told they had caught Eichmann. It seemed like every one of the agents had some personal loss from the Nazi genocide. And yet one of them discussed whether it was right for them to make provision for Eichmann's family in Argentina since they were snatching away the breadwinner.
Fairly well paced though I could see where an outside author could tie all the pieces together well for a faster paced re-telling. The book does not discuss Argentina's reaction when they found out that Israel snatched this guy up and snuck him out of their country. And it does not discuss the trial of Eichmann or trial results. show less

A fascinating account of the capture of Adoph Eichmann in Argentina by the Israeli Secret Service. Eichmann, who had been in charge of the liquidation of the Jewish people in Nazi-occupied Europe, had long been a top target of those seeking to redress the crimes against the Jews during WWII. We're given a window into the workings of the Israeli Secret Service as we watch how the quarry was found, identified and secretly transported back to Israel for trial and execution.
Excellently told story of the hunt for Eichmann.
On May 23, 1960 Israel announced the arrest of Adolf Eichmann the formaer Nazi Leader long considered dead by many. This is the story of his capture told by the fromaer head of Israel's secret service.
Read a long time ago - inherited from mum's shelves.
Author and journalist Guy Walters has chosen to discuss The House on Garibaldi Street by Isser Harel , on FiveBooks as one of the top five on his subject –Nazi Hunting:
"...Isser Harel was head of Mossad [the Israeli Institute for Intelligence and Special Operations] in the early 1950s when Mossad found, from the stories of a half-blind German Jew, that Adolf Eichmann was living in Buenos Aires. Mossad went to have a look at the house and decided there was no way he lives in this little bungalow. But the half-blind Jew, Lothar Hermann, persists, and Mossad eventually collected enough information to say that he in fact is living in this crappy little house – actually, another crappy little house – in Buenos Aires, and they staged show more their audacious, cack-handed, brilliant kidnap of Eichmann off the street in Buenos Aires and took him back to Israel to face trial and he was hanged in 1962. People say that Harel is trying to exculpate himself for dragging his feet on Eichmann, but in the early 1950s Israel had enough enemies on its doorstep to be worrying about Eichmann and it was not easy for them to mount this operation. The idea that they could have done it straight away at that time is just silly. In any case, Eichmann wasn’t a household name until after his trial, so it wasn’t as if this was a big Nazi name then. This book shows that Simon Weisenthal, despite his claims, was not involved in the kidnap or search to the extent that he says he was. ..."

A přestože známe konečný výsledek, jde o velice napínavou hru o každý utajený krok, umocněný psychologií masového vraha a jeho přeživších obětí.
