Description

Archaeologist Annja Creed believes there's more to the apparitions of Santo NiƱo--the Holy Child--luring thousands of pilgrims to Santa Fe. Other sightings of strange and anomalous creatures in the area indicate a mystery more profane than sacred--with links, perhaps, to Annja's own fate. But she is not alone in her quest to separate reliquaries from unholy minds who dare to harness sinister power. A dangerous yet enigmatic Jesuit, sworn to protect the Vatican at any cost, a brilliant young show more artist whose genius portrays a truth too potent for words and a famed monster hunter with a terrifying agenda are the keys to the secrets that lie in the heart of Los Alamos--and unlocking the door to the very fabric of time itself....

Crossposted at Bookstooge.booklikes.blogspot.wordpress.com by express permission of this reviewer Ā  Synopsis Mysterious happenings are occurring in New Mexico. Demonic creatures of darkness are killing people, an incarnation of the Divine Child keeps appearing and saving people, Annja keeps having assassins trying to kill her and through it all an old Jesuit killer keeps popping up. Ā  Also the big, bad, terrible United States Military is doing horrible, dark, secret, scary things. Oh my! Ā  My Thoughts Annja, the skeptic, who can show more pull a sword out of no-where, is physically enhanced, sees a demon with her own eyes, but she says it was just an eagle. This whole "I don't believe in the supernatural even though I'm part of it now" thing grates. It is "Denial" of the worst kind. Ā  Other than that, this was a pretty enjoyable action urban fantasy. Annja teams up with a dying Jesuit who goes after supernatural baddies and they go after a deranged military guy who is trying to breed hybridized demon/animals. Yeah, weird. Ā  I enjoy reading these, even with the faults. It is a formulaic action story, so if I have to put up with 1 or 2 faults in each story, that's ok. Not all formula stories can be as awesome as the Mack Bolan series. Ā  Rating: 3 of 5 Stars Author: Alex Archer " show less
Annja Creed is at it again! And this time, she's investigating sightings of The Holy Child, an apparition that seems to appear to travelers, prophesy some moment of immediate doom, and then disappear. Oh, and she's also trying to figure out what the deal is with these huge, glowing-eyed creatures that keep killing people.

I thought the book was fun, and a decent installment to the series. I may rate it a little higher than it should be simply because of the "fun" factor, because there were several rather gaping plot holes and a convenient, unsatisfying explanation for one of the phenomena (and, uh, maybe I'm remembering wrong, but I think the other one doesn't even get resolved???). But, there's plenty of action, a good deal of Annja show more being vulnerable and investigating the way a real researcher would (minus the "someone's trying to kill me" moments), and we meet someone who I assume will be showing up regularly as the series continues.

There wasn't quite enough "archaeology" in this one for me (but hey, we can't read about soil sampling and Munsell color classifying in every book), but it still made for a good evening of reading.

Rogue Angel: The Chosen, by "Alex Archer" (supposedly, Victor Milan, this month) was another exciting installment. The Chosen certainly didn't lack for action. There was plenty of fighting and swordplay.

Creed is a part-time archeologist, part-time host of a tv show called "Chasing History's" Monsters, and full-time adventurer.

This is the forth book in the Rogue Angel series. This time, Annja goes in search of a mystery surrounding the Santo Nino (Holy Child) sightings, in New Mexico. While on a dig, Annja herself, sees an eerie beast with red eyes that sends her on the quest to seek out an explanation for these strange sightings. Along her journey, she encounters a dangerous and lethal Jesuit priest. But is he a friend or foe?

With show more plenty of action and suspense, these books are quickly becoming a staple in my library. show less
There appears to be apparitions to thousands of pilgrims to Santa Fe and archaeologist Annja Creed is investigating. The conspiracy that's trying to keep her from discovering more about her heritage and abilities are still after her and she has to try to help keep people alive.

It's interesting but the series is getting a little predictable.
A lot of action scenes, which is great, but there was also prolonged scene description. The thought process of going from one place to the next left gaps on how she chose to go to certain destinations.
