Description

In 1996, the Heather Lynne II was struck by a barge and overturned in calm seas 10 miles off Cape Ann, Massachusetts. The three men onboard didn't survive. This work opens four years later in a federal courtroom, where the victims' families are suing the US Coast Guard.

This books is a forensic treatment of a disastrous accident at sea and its aftermath. At the same time, and this only becomes clear at the end, the author is personally involved and is able, indeed unable not to, tell the story with heartbreaking fidelity. This is a 'must read' alongside Junger's 'Perfect Storm', with some of the same crew figuring in both stories. Highly recommended.
