Ages 1 and Up. In “Why Do I Have to Eat off the Floor?” Murphy the dog asks a series of questions (“Why can’t I sleep in your bed?”) and gets a series of simple responses (“Because you have your own bed”) meant to mimic the questions and answers between children and parents. The book is illustrated in a cartoony style with a pastel color palate. Although it is a cute concept, the book isn’t very engaging and the words have no rhythm to them at all. Not recommended.
This is a heartwarming book for parents, children, and dog lovers. It gives a new perspective on the way dogs are treated in our homes and how much we treat them like family.
Booklist, April, 1, 2007, page 57:

"Kids can relate to questions like 'Why can't I?' and answers like 'Because.'. In this offbeat, canine-centric take, Murphy, a floppy-eared beagle, wonders about many things....Dog lovers will appreciate cute, expressive, ever-curious Murphy..."
