Description

"From the best-selling author of Wild, a collection of quotes--drawn from the wide range of her writings--that capture her wisdom, courage, and outspoken humor, presented in a gift-sized package that's as irresistible to give as it is to receive. Around the world, thousands of people have found inspiration in the words of Cheryl Strayed, who in her three prior books and in her "Dear Sugar" columns has shared the twists and trials of her remarkable life. Her honesty, spirit, and ample supply show more of tough love have enabled many of us, even in the darkest hours, to somehow put one foot in front of the other--and be brave enough. This book gathers, each on a single page, more than 100 of Strayed's indelible quotes and thoughts--"mini instruction manuals for the soul" that urge us toward the incredible capacity for love, compassion, forgiveness, and endurance that is within us all. Be brave enough to break your own heart. You can't ride to the fair unless you get on the pony. Keep walking. Acceptance is a small, quiet room. Romantic love is not a competitive sport. Forward is the direction of real life. Ask yourself: What is the best I can do? And then do that"-- "A book of inspirational quotes culled from the author's writings"-- show less

This is my very first read on Kindle and I am so glad for it. Cheryl Strayed has titled the book as a mini instruction manual for soul and I go ahead to vouch how true it is to its content. Many times in life, when I have failed miserably in friendships, or understanding my parents or in my academic and professional lives, I have self- motivated myself and risen up above the misery of failure. But while reading Brave Enough, I realised the facade of bravery that I put upfront to appear strong often resulted in weak spirits in my moments of happiness. I could not feel the sweet taste of accomplishments because I could not let go off the fact that my struggles were too larger than the small amount of success I was experiencing at the show more moment. Now I know that it is life's process to test our strengths and thus, make us feel weaker and smaller than we are so that we bounce back with an energy that manifests our aspirations. I have lived every word written on every page of this book.

This is a compilation of Quotes and from my personal experience I know how inspiring and encouraging words from quotes are in moments of distress. I have had quotes written in diaries, stuck on walls, mirrors, wrote them on jeans, bags, drafting boards, everything that would make me feel stronger than I felt then. Words are powerful. Do read these quotes, live them, analyse and criticise yourself while reminding your heart that your spirits are stronger than you think and nobody can break you unless you give them permission to. Thank you, Ms. Strayed for this book. It's a personal favourite now.

I saw this book in the library and was drawn to it because I've enjoyed Wild and seeing Cheryl speak in person twice. It's kind of funny to me that someone would put together a collection of his or her own quotes. But once I started reading, I'm SO glad this book exists. Many of the quotes are about relationships and life goals, the latter of which was useful and inspiring to me. Here are a few quotes I especially liked:
Don't surrender all your joy
for an idea you used
to have about yourself that
isn't true anymore.

You don't have to get a job that
makes others feel comfortable about what
they perceive as your success. You don't
have to explain what you plan to do with your life....
You have to pay your own electric bill.
You have to be show more kind. You have to give it all you've got.
You have to find people who love you truly
and love them back with the same truth.
But that's all.

Nobody's going to
do your life for you.
You have to do it yourself, whether
you're rich or poor, out of money
or rating it in, the beneficiary
of ridiculous fortune or terrible
injustice. And you have to do it no
matter what is true. No matter what
is hard. No matter what unjust, sad,
sucky things have befallen you. Self-
pity is a dead-end road. You make
the choice to drive down it. It's up to
you to decide to stay parked there
or to turn around and drive out.

And this one that reminds me of the Winchester boys...
Parents teach their children how to be
warriors, to give them the confidence
to get on the horse to ride into battle
when it's necessary to do so. If you didn't
get that from your parents, you have to
teach yourself.

Zingers and sparkling reminders by [a:Cheryl Strayed|155717|Cheryl Strayed|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1445820056p2/155717.jpg] lifted from her previous books. (Remember how deliciously she wrote in [b:Tiny Beautiful Things: Advice on Love and Life from Dear Sugar|13152194|Tiny Beautiful Things Advice on Love and Life from Dear Sugar|Cheryl Strayed|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1339807006s/13152194.jpg|18330294]?)

If you need a respite and a little kick in the pants all in one, pour yourself something good to drink and start turning the pages.
Many of the quotes in this book were taken from her memoir, "Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail" (2012), and her collection of essays, "Tiny Beautiful Things: Advice on Love and Life from Dear Sugar" (2012). I am not convinced that divorcing these quotes from their context worked. Nonetheless, I have selected 60 quotes from this book which resonated with me and I’ll be re-reading them. The others felt new-age motivational and did not work for me. A mixed bag.
It's a quote book, its appeal is limited to people who really, really love Cheryl Strayed, but I really, really love Cheryl Strayed, so.
I really enjoyed reading this collection of quotes from Cheryl Strayed. Cheryl touts this book as a sort of instruction manual for lives stressful times. I can definitely see how this book will be very helpful in stressful times.

I highly recommend this book to anyone, even those who are not experiencing stressful moments in their life.
Quote collection. There were one or two quotes that resonated, but most felt lacking without more detail or the accompanying stories.
