Description
"My friend Johnny is different from me. We have fun together, but sometimes he acts pretty strangely. He is never exactly on time, he can't seem to stick to a routine, he stares right into your eyes, and he often says puzzling things. Johnny is neurotypical. I like Johnny and I think being NT is OK.Tags

Johnny is different. He is never exactly on time, he can't seem to stick to a routine and he often speaks in cryptic idioms. Johnny is neurotypical, but that's OK.
A picture book with a difference, Why Johnny Doesn't Flap turns the tables on common depictions of neurological difference by drolly revealing how people who are not on the autistic spectrum are perceived by those who are. The autistic narrator's bafflement at his neurotypical friend's quirks shows that 'normal' is simply a matter of perspective.

The book's point of view is from the child with autism who describes his neurotypical friend Johnny. Johnny has a problem with punctuality, doesn't follow routines, looks directly into your eyes, and likes to socialize, none of which is appealing to the boy with autism. But "that's OK" because everyone's brain is different and that's just how Johnny is. Written for families to share with autistic children but also useful for neurotypical children to understand how the minds of their autistic friends work.
A book written from the perspective of an autistic young boy about his neurotypical friend. An usual take on the usual stories!
