This series, written by an award winning author, follows the exploits of Joe Grey and Dulcie as they uncover clues that lead to the resolution of a homicide.

Too cute for words. Readers are expected to appreciate two cats with thoughts, actions, and personalities normally shown by people. Five minutes on an audiotape was enough for me. ( )

This is book #19 in the Joe Grey mystery series. Feline sleuths Joe Grey and Dulcie are expecting kittens. The old cat Misto is nearing the end of his life while Kit and Pan are away on an adventure to the Netherworld. Meanwhile there are attacks on the frail and elderly occurring in Molena Point and it will be up to the cats to help the Molena Point PD gather clues and bring the attacker to justice before anyone else is attacked. Some of the victims do end up dying and the police are trying to figure out if there is a link between the victims or if the attacks are random. The cats will do some sleuthing of their own and phone in their anonymous tips to Max Harper, the chief of the Molena Point PD. They will have to make sure to be careful so they don't reveal that they are a special group of talking cats. Together they will solve the crime and bring the attacker(s) to justice.

I haven't read the other books in this series so I was a bit surprised when I started reading this book. I have marked this series to read for a few years but I never really looked into what it was about. I am more of a cozy mystery fan and I would categorize this as mystery but with a twist-obviously the talking cats. It was very hard for me to get into this story but it picked up for me about halfway through. The mystery itself kept me guessing until the killer was revealed along with the common thread that linked the victims together. Overall I liked the story and enjoyed getting to know the cats and their humans. This book read just fine for me as a stand alone novel since I haven't read the others as the author gave just enough information that it wasn't hard for me to sort the characters out.

I received this book free through GoodReads First Reads in exchange for my honest review. ( )
