The book is based on the Alden children and there discovery of the journal in the house that leads them to a great mystery. I love all of the boxcar children and this book has always been my favorite! I would use this book with 4th or 5th grade students and use it as part of a reading assignment where the students are to choose two or three books from the a series and read them all while journaling and at the end of the assignment recap on the books. no reviews | add a review

One thing leads to another and a telegraph between the boys’ rooms leads to the mystery of a missing coin collection. Along the way, they learn more about the mystery of the house, find a fun old local store, and of course eventually solve the mystery.
It all goes to show that you can even find a mystery stuck at home[^ish]—great news in the age of coronavirus.
[^ish]: Although having a giant old house like Grandfather dies likely doesn’t hurt. :) ( )
