Description

Desperate to find a sanctuary where his lover, Casca, will be safe from the demons drawn to her Brand of Sacrifice, Guts the Black Swordsman pushes his motley band of followers onward towards fairy Puck's homeland, Elfhelm. With new allies who make their home in a mystically guarded woodland paradise, Guts' goal seems within reach, but danger lurks in the shadows of even the most dazzling utopias, and even fairy witchery may not protect the wondrous kingdom from an army of marauding, show more murderous trolls! Created by Kentaro Miura, Berserk is a runaway manga locomotive, a crashing colossus of teeth-rattling action, spine-chilling horror, and taboo-breaking humor that fires the boilers of its devoted devotees and burns the rest. Our heroes, after stumbling upon trolls (of course, Casca is in trouble) and trying to penetrate the dark woods, find themselves in a world beyond the veil, at the doorstep of the local witch.

Now, I have to admit that story follows some very well established sword and sorcery principles. And so now we end up with a missing specialty for our group - a magician, Schierke, who is tasked (together with our heroes) to fight troll invasion of the local village.

Of course very presentation of our heroes causes reluctance and doubt in the village to accept them as fighters sent to liberate them. And this is where we meet a little bit different Guts. Not just quick to draw his blade but also quick of wit.

What follows is epic battle with the show more trolls, culminating with the ogre showing up at the end.

All monsters are just that - otherworldly monsters, pretty unique and dreadful. Art is at times very disturbing, and as always people die, one cannot save everybody.

Especially interesting character is local priest who slowly (and painfully I might add) comes to terms with what is happening.

Excellent volume. Part one of magnificent seven :)

Highly recommended.

I love an exposition dump, and that was pretty much the whole middle part of this volume. I think I enjoy exposition dumps because I'm a history major, and what is history if not our own exposition dump?
This is the 24th volume in the Berserk series and was an amazing volume in this series. Guts and crew continue their journey to Puck’s homeland, desperate to find a safe refuge for Casca. They end up stumbling upon some evil trolls and meet with witch apprentice Schierke. Schierke’s mentor provides them with some magical items and offers Schierke’s help on their journey.

After that Guts and crew end up defending a town against a horde of these evil trolls.

I loved the new characters introduced, especially Schierke. I really like where the story is going and love the whole adventure/journey theme to it.

Overall an amazing volume in the Berserk series. I love this new story arc so much and am curious to see where the story is going. show more Recommended to all fantasy horror fans out there. show less
