"It's Christmas on Madrona Island and Cait and friends have plans to embrace the magic of the season. The only dark spot on their celebration is the fact that a miserly old landlord is set on evicting an apartment full of tenants just days before Christmas. Cait makes it her mission to save the old building and is aided by a cat named Ebenezer as they try to convince the old man to change his mind. Things look hopeless when she realizes that an unsolved murder may be behind the man's gruff exterior. Cait vows to solve the mystery as a means of softening the man's heart and saving the apartments. An impossible task? Cait knows that miracles are real and anything can happen at Christmas."--Page 4 of cover.… (more)

I loved this book from the start. Kathi Daley never disappoints her readers. It is always a great time to read one of her books but especially this one with the holidays fast approaching. This will lift your spirits and get you into Christmas and all the love and joy it brings. I must say my favorite part of this book is the modern day Scrooge concept. Especially Ebenezer the cat.
It is a magical Christmas on Madrona Island. Full of joy, laughter, and a 20 year old mystery???
Everyone appears to be in the Christmas spirit except old man Balthazar Pottage. He is determined to make everyone at the Bayview Apartments have a not so Merry Christmas. He figures if he is miserable that everyone else should be too.
Caitlin has a ton of things on her mind besides Cody, her very sweet boyfriend. She is in charge of getting the Christmas play and Choir with over 30+kids organized and off without a hitch. She is also worried about Destiny and the big decision she will have to make soon. On top of all of this she is told about the apartments. She wants to find a way to save them or at least slow the process down till after the new year. She and Mr. Scrooge, I mean Mr Pottage make a deal. Caitlin has 3 weeks to solve a mystery that hasn't been solved for 20 years to try and save the apartments. Will she be able to solve this mystery in time? She will have to call in the help of all her friends and family and hopefully with a little Christmas magic Madrona island will have a Merry Christmas after all. ( )

A definite 5 star read. Another winner from Kathi Daley.
I was so excited about this sixth book of the Whales and Tails series that I preordered the book in order to have it as soon as it went live.
While there is only one spiritual cat, instead of the three ghosts of past, present and future, he plays his part well, when he isn't lounging by the fire.

Even if you have parts of the mystery figured out early, you will still be captured by the storyline and won't want to set this book down until all the puzzle pieces have come together. Some clues come from unexpected sources.
You can read this as a stand alone but I suggest you also pick up the other books in this series and enjoy them as well.

A wonderful cold case mystery that is in need of a Christmas miracle.
We again get to enjoy the friendship of the residents of Pelican Bay and the Coffee Cat Bookstore and see how they pull together, not only to solve a mystery but to ensure that no one spends a holiday alone. ( )
