Author Susan Hood and Matthew Cordell, who previously collaborated on Rooting for You, come together again in Leaps and Bounce, a poetic picture-book exploration of how little eggs grow into frogs. Starting out very small, the eggs grow and change, becoming tadpoles, and then full-fledged amphibians. As the narrator concludes: "From pond to nest to mountain range, / few of us grow up unchanged!"

Like its predecessor, this winsome little work of picture-book natural history pairs an engaging narrative with appealing artwork. It also features the same fold-out pages that the previous title did, giving the book added entertainment value. The final fold-out four-page spread, showing the frogs in all their glory, is really quite fun. Recommended to anyone looking for entertaining picture-books about the metamorphosis of frogs, one that is more poetic than scientific in its approach to the topic. ( )
