A book I was forced to read in highschool, but was a fairly plesant read after Gustave Flaubert's 'Madame Bovary' (the most dreadfully dull book I've ever had the displeasure of reading). The two books follow very similar plots, but this one, set in a Quebec mining village, was sufficiently good that I went out and bought Langevin's next novel.
