A hard hitting story about how guilt turns to hate - of self and others, especially the victim of one's stupidity, of hope and reality. And how politics destroys lives.
This is a replacement copy for an old Penguin I loved, but the title changed. My original copy was called "Be Ready with Bells and Drums". I was also under the impression that the book was set in Sydney Australia, but according to the blurb on this copy it is set in New York. I loved this book as a teenager.
