SLATE (Breaking the Declan Brothers, #2)

This book contains two parts in my eyes. The erotic part is very well done and if that would have been the whole book, the star rating would have been 5.

Sadly (in this case) there is a story behind the sex. Don't get me wrong, I liked the flashbacks to the characters' childhood and how they fell in love. Their present is the thing I have a problem with. Rayna isn't consistent in her personality and actions. She wants Slate, she doesn't want him, she wants sex, no she doesn't, yes she does too... She keeps switching from blushing virgin to sex-crazed kitten and back with no reason. And the way Slate's drug addiction was done? She forces him to go cold turkey and three days later he is 'healed'. No cravings anymore, no struggling.... it's show more a miracle! Apparantly you only need sex while you're in withdrawal (how did he do it?! That didn't make sense to me) and everything is fine.

Still, if you like romance series with changing main characters, this is the book/series for you! The other two novels deal with Slate's brothers.

Slate picks up where [b:Jax|24547983|Jax (Breaking the Declan Brothers, #1)|Kelly Gendron|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1423567123s/24547983.jpg|44150283] left off, this time focusing on the middle Declan brother and Rayna. I knew this book was going to be more intense as Slate had some major issues - particularly being an addict - but I don't remember that his injuries were mentioned in the first book. So I'm not gonna mention much about them here as I don't want to give spoilers.

Rayna and Slate were childhood loves, until something happened that broke Rayna's heart. That drove her out of the Bayou and now, 6 years later, she is back in town. Obviously there are unresolved issues between her and Slate, but once she sees him again, she show more pretty much forgets about that vengeance plan, and sees he needs help. Hence the Detox Declan Brother plan gets underway. Of course throwing these two back together leads to lots of sexual tension and some pretty steamy sexytime. I liked both characters... even without feeling a deep connection with them. I just don't think that level of connection and emotional detail is able to be worked into a 200 page book. But neither got on my nerves, which is always good when I am reading a new adult book.

All in all, this was a good quick read. I managed to get it read during one leg of my flight - which was about 75 minutes. I would recommend it to new adult fans who like those damaged heroes that are up for fixin' by the heroine.

This was a first Declan Brothers book for me but not a last, I loved this story.
Slate Declan is the middle brother and he has been hurt in a terrible fire, unfortunately he now is addicted to drugs, he first needed them for the pain and now he uses what ever he can get in between fighting in the ring.
Rayna was Slate's past love, they grew up together, but when she caught him cheating on her Rayna broke it off and left town with a broken heart.

When she come back to visit years later she's devastated when she see's Slate, she had a plan like maybe breaking his heart, now she has a different plan for him, she wants to help him. But he's a different man, he's hard, he likes to fight and all he thinks about is his next fix, can she get show more through to him.

A great story, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. show less

I really cant believe how good this book is, it went way beyond my expectations. I read book two first and its not hard to follow, cant wait to read about Zeke, its always great to see how the bad boys fall.
